About me and my therapy practice
A warm welcome to my page. I offer affordable counselling to adults online via video conferencing and face to face. I am an experienced counsellor and engage with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, symptoms of trauma, bereavement, stress, relationship and communication issues, and personal change management. I work in English and French.
How I work:
My therapeutic model is integrative.
The healing power of the therapeutic relationship is central to my practice. I aim for this relationship to be restorative, in support of safety, empathy, learning, and creativity.
I draw on a range of theories and techniques including Attachment Theory, the Psychodynamic, Person Centred and Gestalt approaches to counselling along with Trauma therapies.
I appreciate the contribution made by the arts, literature, philosophy and neuroscience to the understanding of what it means to be human and to how we make sense of our lives and alleviate suffering. If we work together, I may draw on the therapeutic application of these fields.
Practice description
Counselling is a process of exploration and discovery. I will listen to you with an open mind and work with you collaboratively. The sessions are a space to grow new perspectives and widen the range of options available to you to instigate change in your life and enhance your quality of life.
Physical and mental health are of equal importance. Yet often people feel anxious or uncomfortable about seeking counselling, for what can be very personal matters. Sometimes low mood, feelings of loss, anger, anxiety or shame, relationship difficulties or navigating change can feel overwhelming. Sometimes you might have a sense of struggling with your mental health but without knowing quite how or why. Attending counselling can help you find ways through such challenges by supporting you to:
• gain psychological insight, resilience and flexibility.
• manage or transform unconscious patterns that sometimes underpin behaviour and get in the way of your potential and fulfilment. These patterns can take the form of biases, expectations and ways of perceiving reality.
• gain emotional regulation and interpersonal skills.
• Help you manage and heal symptoms of trauma.
• Clarify your values and rekindle a sense of purpose and meaning.
My first session
Initial contact:
I offer a free introductory phone call. This will be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have and establish whether we might schedule an assessment.
Assessment:
The initial assessment session will usually be for up to one hour and a half in duration and will enable me to hear in detail what brings you to seek counselling. This will be an opportunity for you to meet me, to ask anything you would like to know about how I work and to explore what you can expect from sessions. The assessment may take place over one or several sessions depending on requirements.
Subsequent sessions:
If we chose to work together, we will then discuss our working arrangements, including timings of sessions, fees, cancellation policy, confidentiality and so on.
Subsequent counselling sessions are 50 minutes each in duration and in most cases are held at the same time and on the same day each week.
Session format:
The format of the session will depend on your requirements, on issues presented and the stage of the therapy.
I offer brief, time-limited work or open- ended counselling. If our work becomes open ended we will review outcomes on a regular basis.
