About me and my therapy practice

I am a person centred counsellor, supervisor and trainer with many years experience of working in the public, private, education and voluntary sectors.

I offer both short- and long-term counselling to young people (11+), adults and couples. I aim to offer a safe, non-judgemental, supportive space for you to explore issues and concerns and feel heard and understood.

I believe counselling can be creative and dynamic: we can draw it, make it, build it in the sand or find images that capture it. When the left hemisphere of our brain cannot provide an answer through words and language, we can tap into the right hemisphere to see what happens.

Choosing a therapist is a very personal decision. To this end, I welcome enquiries by email or telephone and offer a no-obligation introductory session to give you a feel for how I work.

As an accredited member of BACP, I am committed to ethical and non-discriminatory practice and ensure that I get regular supervision, training and support from my colleagues so that you can feel confident in our work together.

Practice description

I was drawn to the person centred approach because it fits closely with my own personal philosophy.

The person centred approach is based on the idea that we are all unique and the true experts on ourselves. It follows that each of us has the ability to live our lives to our full potential and, in the context of a genuine, trusting and non-judgemental relationship, can draw on our own resources and creativity to navigate any challenges we encounter along the way.

As a person centred counsellor, my aim is to offer you a warm, supportive and confidential therapeutic relationship in which you can harness this potential and resourcefulness within yourself.

How long you might come for counselling is very individual: sometimes just one session can make a difference, other times a few sessions feel helpful through to sessions over many months or years. Whatever the time frame, it is important that the direction, pace and depth we go to in sessions are always informed and guided by you.

My first session

If you are interested in working together, please call/text 07879 646360 or e-mail sam@samsimpsoncounselling.co.uk for an initial conversation about what you’re looking for and what I offer.

I usually then suggest we meet for a no-obligation introductory session. This comes with no conditions or expectations. It’s a chance for us to meet and see whether we feel comfortable and would like to work together. It also gives you an opportunity to tell me more about your personal circumstances, and to ask me whatever you need to know about me and about how I work.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a person centred counsellor, supervisor and trainer with many years’ experience of working in the public, private, education and voluntary sectors.

I offer supervision and supervision of supervision to trainee and qualified practitioners working in a range of contexts. I aim to offer a space and quality of attention that will support you to examine your practice, therapeutic relationships and career openly and honestly. I understand supervision to be a collaborative process based on mutual trust, respect and engagement. I believe supervision can be creative and dynamic: we can draw it, make it, build it in the sand or find images that capture it. When the left hemisphere of our brain cannot provide an answer through words and language, we can tap into the right hemisphere to see what happens.

Choosing a supervisor is a very personal decision. To this end, I welcome enquiries by email or telephone and offer no-obligation introductory sessions to give you a feel for how I work.

As an accredited member of BACP, I am committed to ethical and non-discriminatory practice and ensure that I get regular supervision, training and support from my colleagues so that you can feel confident in our work together.

Practice description

Supervision is essential to effective therapeutic practice. Regular opportunities to reflect on all aspects of our work in depth enable therapists to develop the skills, qualities and personal resourcefulness to practise safely, creatively and ethically.

I am deeply committed to my own supervision. It is the bedrock of both my therapy and supervision practice and, as such, allows you to feel confident in our work together. I have experienced supervision in a variety of different forms over the course of my career. A Diploma in Person Centred Supervision from Metanoia Institute has further informed and deepened my knowledge, skills and supervision practice.

I have many years’ experience of supervising counsellors, educators and health and care professionals working with children, young people and adults in the public, private, education and voluntary sectors. I offer both individual and group supervision as part of my independent practice and am a Metanoia-approved supervisor.

I also play an active role in teaching allied health and care professionals about supervision at post-qualification levels, promoting pro-supervision cultures and developing high quality supervision practice across the public and private sectors.
