About me and my therapy practice
I have 10 years of experience in supporting people through their emotional distress, whether short-term crisis or a long-term debilitating emotional or mental health issue such as depression or anxiety. I have a calm and gentle counselling approach, which is also accepting, exploratory and engaging.
I work with a 'person-centred' approach, which is all about allowing you the time to explore your experiences without being judged, and allowing you the opportunity to find clarity when you may be filled with uncertainty about the way forward. Throughout my training I have studied a number of other theories and approaches which I bring into our sessions as and when they are appropriate as they can be real gems in helping an individual to understand what they're going through; this is also called working integratively.
Work can be short or long term, depending on your needs. As well as running my private practice, Laura Hughes Therapies (formerly Ember Counselling), I work with EAPs to provide counselling support to local people and organisations. I have previously worked as a counsellor with NEW College, a local wellbeing centre, the Stroke Association, Droitwich Foodbank, a London-based online counselling helpline, and Cruse Bereavement Care.

About me and my therapy practice
It is my first priority to ensure that the therapy room/supervisory relationship is one where you feel comfortable and safe to be able to share your thoughts, feelings and experiences regarding your work with clients, as well as your own wellbeing. I take a holistic approach to our work, as I believe supervision is about working with 'all of you'. It is your opportunity to reflect, develop, learn and progress both as a counsellor, a professional and a person.
As both a counsellor and supervisor, I consider myself as someone who will ‘go with the flow’, following a person-centred ethic. That said, I have studied a range of theories and research from both a counselling, psychological, and biopsychosocial perspective which provides me with a broad range of knowledge to draw on, whoever I am working with, to best meet that individual’s goals for our work together.
