About me and my therapy practice

The aim is to improve your quality of life. This means getting a clear idea of what you are hoping for, and figuring out what stops you from moving from where you are to where you want to be. You might hope for: greater fulfilment at work; a richer life outside of work; more fulfilling connections with others; a healthier romantic relationship; or a better sex life. Once we know what we are working towards, we can agree on a strategy for getting there. It usually involves developing your awareness of your habitual processes that keep you stuck; working through blocked emotions or unfinished business from the past, and expanding your repertoire of available resources and strategies for getting what you want or need.

I bring to the sessions a wealth of training and experience to help you work through a broad range of emotional and mental health difficulties including anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, relationship problems and sexual concerns.

Practice description

I draw from a wide range of training and tailor the way I work to the needs of the individual. In this sense, we are creating the therapy together.

With that said, I consistently place emphasis on paying attention to present-moment experience. I encourage an attitude of awareness and curiosity about what is going inside and between us during our conversations. I find that the two key benefits of working in this way are: (1) there is an abundance of useful information that comes up if we take the time to notice; and (2) it provides a training environment for finding the best way of relating to yourself and others.

Within these mindful conversations, we might be making sense of your issues, identifying your values, processing memories of past events, or creating experiments for trying out alternative behaviours. It really depends on what you are working on and working towards.

My first session

I suggest we start with a telephone or video consultation. There is no charge for this and it normally lasts around ten-to-fifteen minutes.

From there, we can decide whether to meet for an initial,  in-person session. Here, we will discuss your issues in more detail and identify what you are hoping for from the sessions. You will get a flavour of my way of working, and a sense of me as a person.

After that, we will both take some time to think about it and decide if we are a good fit for continuing the work.

If we agree to continue, you will have a weekly slot in my diary. We will continue until it is time to stop.
