About me and my therapy practice
Thinking that you may need a safe place to talk can be a big step but an important and potentially life changing decision. Conversations in therapy are different than those that we may be able to have with friends or family. Even people with strong support around them may at times need a place to talk openly about things that feel difficult, events from the past or uncertainties about the future.
It can be beneficial to speak to someone who is trained, non judgemental and independent about the different things that have occurred in our lives and in doing so, make sense of why things are as they are. We can learn new ways to think about our experiences and different strategies to deal with feelings and emotions which at times can be overwhelming. Therapy can be a place to tell the same story again and again or it can be a place to explore a thought, feeling or idea out loud for the first time.
There are often limits to what we can change in our lives but I firmly believe we can change how we deal with the things that have happened to us, learn to cope with conflicting thoughts and feelings and develop a robust sense of self awareness and confidence.
I am an accredited member of the BACP, a qualified clinical supervisor and have fifteen years experience of working full time as a person centred therapist. I am passionate about therapy and feel I am a perceptive and sensitive communicator - I take pleasure in establishing effective therapeutic relationships. During my counselling career I have worked with a wide range of clients who have experienced loss, bereavement, relationship difficulties, low mood, stress and anxiety or a general dissatisfaction with life. I don't consider myself to have a specialist area but my background includes working with many people who have had trauma in their lives and adverse childhood experiences. I have a lot of practical knowledge of working with University students and those with issues around addiction.
My first session
Initially I offer a free thirty minute introductory session during which we will talk about what brought you to therapy, a bit about your background and what you are hoping to gain from being in therapy. I will also try to answer any questions you have about the process. It’s important that you feel some rapport with the therapist you work with so even though it can feel awkward at first this is a good opportunity to work out if things feel comfortable.

Practice description
Alongside a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision I have worked as a full time therapist for almost twenty years and as such have gained a wealth of experience.
My aim in supervision is to provide a supportive and professional place for you to explore your work with clients. Together we will ensure that safe and ethical practices are central to your therapeutic work.
I believe in asking powerful questions to help you access your own intuition and wisdom wherever you are in the relationship with your client or in your career as a therapist. Respecting the boundaries between supervision and counselling, our work will focus on any issues that impact your practice.
