About me and my therapy practice
I like to offer a safe, calm and supportive space to people who are facing difficulty in their lives. Do you have a sense of feeling confused, stuck or disappointed in relationships? Perhaps you want to talk about a disturbing loss or new circumstances. You might be facing change as you take on an unfamiliar role or goal. Some people come to see me suffering from a lack of meaning or enjoyment in their lives
I'd like you to have the opportunity to discuss what you may not feel able to share elsewhere. So often, I've seen how once people have a safe, confidential, supportive space to put their experience into words, they're more able to manage how they feel. They become more emotionally resilient and find new options in relation to old behaviours. This frees them to take more meaning and enjoyment in their relationships. Many difficulties represent a struggle with issues and conflicts from the past.
As well as dealing with the past, we can give attention to your current situation and how you wish to pursue your life. The increasing pace and complexity of modern life can, by itself, cause emotional difficulties. We're extremely varied in what we desire, what troubles us, and what makes us happier. I feel that each therapy has to reflect the unique needs of each person. In times of change or crisis, some feelings and thoughts are too much for one mind – but two people working together can make progress. I've worked with people from all walks of life, and I'm sensitive to the wide variety of values, lifestyles and identities that people pursue.
We can discuss what you're going through, begin to make sense of things, and find a way forward. Some emotional difficulties and challenging situations are too much for one person to cope with by themselves. However, the two of us working together can help you manage how you feel, think creatively, and consider the different choices you could make. Our time together is confidential, and you can take things at your own pace.
Practice description
I've been working as a psychotherapist since 1999. After a number of years employed in private sector and NHS therapy services, I'm now in full-time private practice. I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist following a psychoanalytic training at The Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis. I am also BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor following four years of training in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy at Metanoia Institute.
I offer a wide range of psychotherapy and personal development work, dealing with various issues including anxiety, depression and loss. My particular interest is in concern regarding identity, life transitions and workplace issues. I have a particular interest in workplace problems and organisational difficulties. I have experience as both a manager and a trainer. I offer executive coaching and employee support, helping people to address the many pressures they face in the modern workplace.
I originally worked in the legal profession, and my workplace issues expertise is informed by my legal experience in the commercial sector, which has included work in a city law firm and a large plc.
You can find out more about my executive coaching work here: https://christianmurphy.com/workplace/. I am a director and co-founder of Respia – www.respia.io - a management consultancy providing one-to-one executive coaching and facilitated peer-groups for business founders and decision makers.
I'm a registered provider with all the main private medical insurers, including Allianz, Aviva, AXA PPP, Bupa, Cigna, Healix, MindRight, Vitality and WPA. If your policy covers psychotherapy sessions, I'd be happy to discuss the referral process when we first speak and contact your insurer to confirm the details of your referral.

About me and my therapy practice
As well as supervising psychoanalytic practitioners, I also work with therapists from other orientations who would like to integrate more psychoanalytic thinking into their practice. I aim to work collaboratively with supervisees across all areas of their practice.
I have experience of supervising NHS, EAP, insurance and private practice work. I work with trainees who are on placement or preparing for qualification. I also offer support to practitioners who wish to go into private practice or transition into management roles.
Practice description
I like to offer a space for the exploration of the therapist’s emotional responses to their clients, their practice and the role of psychotherapist more generally. I also support colleagues with ethical issues, risk management, conflict within organisations and managing practice in times of personal difficulty.
My usual practice is to see supervisees twice-a-month, although I work with some supervisees once-a-month if they have a second supervisor. I currently have some supervision space weekday afternoons.. I’m happy to have an initial conversation on the phone about what you’re looking for from supervision.
