About me and my therapy practice
I am an accredited BACP therapist and a consultant/supervisor in EMDR trauma therapy. I have over 20 years experience in working with a broad spectrum of issues including depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationships, work related difficulties and self esteem.
I have a particular interest in working through traumatic events and early relationship difficulties to help people overcome blocks, achieve their potential and lead a more fulfilling life.
Practice description
My approach is always flexible to decide upon the best way forward to help you and to fit in with your individual therapeutic needs. I use a variety of approaches such as cognitive theories, somatic work and mindfulness techniques. I specialise in EMDR which is recommended by NICE and the World Health Organisation as an effective therapy for dealing with trauma. It is also a useful method for increasing self esteem and overcoming anxiety. Many difficulties have their roots in adverse childhood experiences and building stronger inner resources is a central part of my work.
I aim to provide a supportive environment in which to explore the issues that are troubling you and for us to consider the most practical and fruitful way forward.
I am experienced in both short-term focussed therapy and longer term work. I see people both face to face and online using Zoom, Skype, FaceTime or WhatsApp. I approach my work with clarity, sensitivity and warmth, helping you to explore whatever aspect of your life you may wish to understand, take control of, or improve.
My first session
Many people might feel daunted by finally addressing issues that might have been troubling them for many years and it is not unusual to be anxious about opening up to a stranger. Generally though they experience a great relief at beginning to tackle something that they might have been avoiding.
A first session will involve a general history and exploration of what you want to achieve in therapy and deciding upon a treatment plan together. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions that you might have. It is not often helpful to go into details about past traumas and one benefit of EMDR is that there does not need to be a great discussion about events. We would use initial sessions for strengthening your resources and creating a safe environment in order to be ready to process any traumas.
