Availability

I am available Monday to Fridays between 8am and finishing by 6.30pm for face-to-face in the room and remote appointments with flexibility to move between the two where it is helpful.  I encourage weekly sessions to begin with, but am happy to discuss less frequent sessions according to need, preference and appropriateness with ongoing assessment as to effectiveness.  I work long and short term.

About me and my therapy practice

I have been in practice for over 25 years and gained Accreditation as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist in 2005.  I am approved by the following insurance companies: Bupa, WPA, AXA, AVIVA, and VitalityHealth.

Whilst my core training is in the Person-Centred model, I have some additional post qualification training in working creatively, in CBT ideas and techniques, in Mindfulness, Brief Solution Focussed Therapy and in working with trauma. I also draw upon ideas from other approaches and work in a more integrated way now, unless a purely person-centred approach is required.  I believe counselling and psychotherapy is most effective when working holistically with thoughts, feelings and behaviour.  As such I try to identify with clients, their skills, resources and way of being in the world, so that we can work together in a way that will be most helpful.

I have worked as a counsellor and supervisor in Local Government, the voluntary sector, a service for young people aged 14 +, and as a at a local Further Education/Higher Education college.  I have also worked as a Supervisor at Nottingham Counselling Service.

In the past, I managed a staff counselling service in Local Government, and prior to training in Counselling Psychotherapy, I worked for 12 years in HR.  I have an interest in workplace wellbeing and the interaction between work, stress and mental health.

I take referrals from: people who contact me directly; word of mouth; ‘employees’ referred through the workplace, Employee Assistance Programmes or HR/Occupational Health; GPs and clients accessing counselling through private healthcare and counsellors/psychotherapists in training.

I have worked with clients across a diverse spectrum in terms of background, faith, culture, race, sexuality and gender identity, as well as people living with a range of disabilities. I have worked with young people (14+) and adults, and have experience across the wide range of issues that we may all have to face at different points in our lives.

Practice description

My practice is based in a dedicated room at my home, with separate access and facilities.   There is ample parking, and regular bus timetable  from central Nottingham (no 5 and 7).

My first session

I offer a free half hour telephone conversation as part of our initial contact to give us both a chance to get a sense of each other and whether we feel like we might be a good match.  A first session can then be arranged which is charged at my agreed rate.   This is part of our mutual assessment as to whether to proceed.
