About me and my therapy practice
I work with individuals, couples, families and groups; offering clients a confidential, professional and reliable service so they have a safe place to talk about and work to resolve whatever is troubling them. I can provide counselling on a short or long term basis.
I have been in practice since 2009, am an accredited member of BACP, as well as National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC). I am a trained Groupwork Practitioner. I work with BUPA and a number of Employee Assistance providers.
Making a decision to come for counselling is the first step on a path to understanding more about yourself, your past and present relationships and to resolve difficulties in your life.
We will identify and agree your aims from counselling, and work at your pace, providing time and space to talk openly about issues, explore feelings and thoughts as individuals and in relationships with others and consider how past experiences and current behaviour may be connected. In other words, to understand what might drive you to do what you do and feel what you feel and why. Gaining such insight and understanding can be key in finding a calmer and more fulfilled sense of self. Of course your goals from counselling can change over time, that is fine, and we can work with whatever you bring into our time together.
The duration of counselling depends on what you want to explore and achieve from counselling. In my experience, you will know when the work of therapy is complete. You can attend as few or as many sessions as they wish, there is no other commitment. Some clients prefer to work with an open-ended contract, and others prefer to work to a fixed number of sessions, followed by a review to agree that the work is complete or to continue further. In all cases, we regularly review our work together. This helps us to assess whether your needs are being met and if required to adjust the process and/or establish new focus for our work together.
Practice description
What have my clients said about our work together?
“Heather gave me space to air my concerns and be listened to without prejudice. She was very understanding of me, pushed me out of my comfort zone in a nice way that enabled me to grow and move forward from the dark hole that I have been in. Also useful is working on strategies to help manage my worries. It has been a good and positive experience.”
“It’s been an amazing experience. I have learned so much about myself, and at the beginning, never thought I would ever feel in control of my life and my emotions ever again. Thank you for supporting and chivvying me along the way. Thank you.”
“I have found Heather very calm, she listened, explained everything thoroughly. She made it easy for me to talk about my anxieties and has been supportive. I give her 10 out of 10 and more.”
“I feel genuinely better and am coping much better with everything. Thank you for listening and helping me think about myself and my situation. It has been helpful and comforting to have someone to talk to.”
“It was what I needed at the time, I am now more able to cope with things day to day without imploding.”
“Thanks for the sessions. They have been beneficial to draw a path for myself moving forwards. You have helped me tremendously on working through everything and moving forwards.”
“I am pleased that I found someone who could help me think through my issues and find solutions to understanding myself better.”
“It has been incredibly helpful, and I have looked forward to the sessions. Heather’s approach has helped me fall back in love with therapy. I have felt very validated throughout the process.”
“I’ve come on leaps and bounds since I started sessions. I’ve been able to talk about things I wouldn’t share with others. A big thank you. It was a big help and I feel that I found the right therapist.”
