About me and my therapy practice

I am Psychodynamic and Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with over 16 years experience. I am a qualified Adlerian supervisor.

I have worked in various settings including an online charity offering counselling support to young people, a secondary school, a service for men who have been sexually abused and/or raped and I have worked in HE for over a decade.

At the heart of Psychodynamic theory is understanding how previous experiences may influence our feeling, thinking and in turn behaviour and using these reflections to navigate what steps we need to take to create a shift in our inner world.

For these reasons I also am very interested in social constructionism  and systems. I always hold a curiosity about how the manner in which a client has been constructed by society impacts their sense of self and their lived experiences and how this affects their navigation of the systems in which they find themselves.  I create a space for reflecting on how this all impacts their inner world and their interpersonal relationships.

I also work from an intercultural perspective as I am aware that the client's story ( as well as the supervisee's) can often be viewed from a European model of mind which can lead to sense of being misunderstood for the client and or/supervisee.

I also have training in Motivational Interviewing and some DBT training and as a result of my work in a sexual violence service, extensive trauma training.

Practice description

I see my role as a supervisor as playing a part in the continuing development of the therapist by providing a space in which there can be compassionate led challenge as well as support.

I aim to create a safe space in which clinical decisions whatever the outcome (even 'mistakes') can be explored and reflected on without a sense of punity and shame with the aim of supporting the supervisee in building resilience and confidence in their own clinical decision making and practice.

My first session

The first session will be a shorter (30mins) exploratory session where I get a sense of your level of experience, you as a therapist (your modality, personal style of working, ideas about how you see your role as therapist) and what you would like from a supervisory relationship.

Equally I am open to being asked about my working background, level of experience, my sense of what a supervisor offers and the frame and model within which I work.
