About me and my therapy practice
For many years, I struggled to find a supervisor who provides supervision for therapists who work outdoors and so my intention is to provide such a service to other therapists.
I offer sessions in parks and outdoor spaces across London including Regent's Park and Hampstead Heath.
I have completed a diploma in contemplative supervision at the Karuna Institute located within the wilderness of the Dartmoor National Park. My practice has shown that the fusion of the deeply relational focus offered by Core Process Psychotherapy and the contemplative model of supervision developed by Karen Kissel Wegela at the Naropa Institute in Colorado offer a practical methodology for those working outdoors. It is additionally a helpful model for those working from awareness based practices such as gestalt therapy.
Practice description
The contemplative model is based on bringing attentive awareness to three categories of client observation:
Body - noting what is figural for the therapist of the client's physical appearance
Speech - bringing awareness to different aspects to how the client communicates
Mind - observing the client's sense of self and the sense of connection between their inner and outer world
All of the senses are brought to the fore to describe the impact the client has made in the therapist's working relationship with the client which can achieve a means of shifting and resolving that which has appeared stuck and blocked.
It is an experiential way of working and one that I find is analogous with my training in gestalt therapy. As a therapist, I find it provides a means to reflect upon the various processes I experience outdoors with my clients. There is an intelligent spontaneity at play and a state of psychological ease, as effortless as walking.
I additionally draw upon the experiential nature of the seven eyed model of supervision developed by Hawkins and Shohet.
