In addition to talking therapy, I am a registered HCPC arts therapist. This means I have undergone specialist training and can safely support people to work creatively through a range of emotional problems including anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD and relationship issues.
There is no requirement to be experienced or knowledgeable about art. In fact, this can sometimes get in the way because art therapy is not about knowing a technique, getting something right or making something look good.
Instead, art therapy is about tapping into painful unseen elements that want expression but don't yet have the words. My role is to support you to find a safe and creative way of externalising what's going on inside through the use of art media.
Art therapy is powerful because it works beyond the two way relationship of client and therapist. It is a triangular relationship that includes the art form which can be viewed and thought about together. It can help join the dots, opening up new perspectives, possibilities and pathways.
You get to choose which art forms you want to work with and I support you in this process. This includes: postcards, sandtray, mandalas, doodling, painting, miniature objects, metaphor, journaling, creative visualisations, poetry, music, movement and the body.
A wonderful benefit of art therapy is how it charts your journey of change and transformation in a visual way.
