About me and my therapy practice
My name is Rob, and I am a fully qualified (MSc with distinction), full time professional counsellor/psychotherapist with a proven track record of helping people work through all kinds of problems. I offer a safe and confidential space where you can feel understood and listened to without judgment while I use my skills to help you make sense of life and its problems.
In my work I have been privileged to witness many people making lasting positive changes to their lives, and the NHS approved assessment tool (CORE-OM) that I use demonstrates that my counselling/psychotherapy leads to reliable and measurable improvements to well being, functioning, and resolution of problems/symptoms.
Please note, the best way to contact me is by using the email enquiry form on this page or via my website. Because I am often in sessions with clients, and only have a short amount in between, or am in a public place and unable to talk confidentially, I have to wait until I can find an appropriate time to call back, which means contacting me by telephone is usually the slowest way to get hold of me! Please visit my website for much more comprehensive information about me and my work!
Practice description
I generally work with individuals but offer couples counselling to the LGBTQIA community as this can be a hard to find service. Please enquire for further details.
My first session
I offer either a 15 minute call or visit, or a full initial assessment session of one hour charged at my usual rate. This includes pre-session admin and an online assessment tool and allows us to discuss your concerns in depth to identify the key issues and explore ways of moving forward. If it appears we will not be a good match I can advise on the next steps or offer you an onward referral to a colleague or other support if appropriate.

At the heart of things, I am a regular bloke who has been through a lot! I am a queer/LGBT affirmative therapist and am happy to work with you regardless of sexuality. I am a sex positive therapist and working with sex and sexuality is something I am very comfortable with - along with many of life's other nooks and crannies!
Practice description
Imagine a private conversation where your thoughts and feelings take centre stage. That's the core of counselling—a dialogue between you and a trained professional, focused entirely on your needs and experiences. In these sessions, you're given the opportunity to unravel complex issues, discover new perspectives, and chart a course towards personal growth.
Your counsellor's role? To provide a judgement-free zone where you can speak freely, knowing you'll be heard and understood without criticism. It's a seemingly straightforward concept, yet profoundly impactful. After all, how often in daily life do we encounter someone solely dedicated to our wellbeing, without any personal motives?
Mind you, a skilled counsellor won't simply nod along. They'll gently challenge ingrained patterns of thought or behaviour that might be holding you back. The aim is to help you break free from unhelpful cycles and embrace more positive ways of thinking and living.
My approach draws on the Person-Centred philosophy pioneered by Carl Rogers, blended with insights from emotional focusing, mindfulness practices, and cutting-edge neuroscience. This diverse toolkit allows me to adapt my methods to suit each individual's unique circumstances, working collaboratively to help you move forward. Clients often tell me they find me approachable and that our sessions feel like a safe harbour in which to explore their concerns.
In today's fast-paced world, we're constantly bombarded by expectations—from family, friends, colleagues, and society at large. This relentless pressure can make it challenging to connect with our authentic selves and true desires. Counselling offers a regular, confidential space where you can set aside these external demands and focus on what truly matters to you. Ultimately, it's about empowering you to take control of your life and shape your future on your own terms.
