Currently I am working in person, online (Zoom) & by mobile phone Monday - Wednesday. For those able to attend locally,  I work in person from my Grasmere consulting room.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a member of the BAPPS. Alongside my individual analytic training and experience, I also have a training in integrative supervision. As a group analyst, I have substantial experience in providing supervision and reflective practice .to work teams, organisations and within the NHS.

Broadly speaking, I provide individual and group supervision, and reflective practice based on psychodynamic / psychoanalytic / Jungian analytic principles and practice. Supervision and reflective practice both involve a confidential on-going conversation about our working experience. Both disciplines (supervision and reflective practice) are also of benefit for those involved in any of the helping professions who wish to explore and understand the underlying dynamics of their working relationships with clients, colleagues, and their organisation or agency.

The supervision I provide aims to:

  • Facilitate, encourage and inform your work with clients, supporting your professional development.
  • Explore the dynamics of the supervisory relationship and how this might inform you about your client work and any wider organisational context.
  • Enable and evaluate competent and ethical professional practice.
  • Maintain the reputation of the therapeutic profession by attending to standards, ethics and clinical governance.

(Adapted from 'Supervising and Being Supervised' by Wiener, Mizen & Duckham, Palgrave, Macmillan 2003).

Practice description

I provide supervision and reflective practice for both trainee and qualified colleagues and other helping professionals who seek a psychodynamic perspective to their work. For counsellors and psychotherapists, I offer continuing experiential training in psychodynamic / psychoanalytic / Jungian analytic theory and practice.

My first session

I aim to respond to initial enquiries within 24 hours. My normal practice would be to provide an initial consultation. This is not intended to be a supervision session and so there is no fee for this meeting. It would usually take 50 mins. Meeting in this way provides an opportunity to:
  • speak briefly about the work concerns you wish to bring to supervision,
  • ask any questions about the process of supervision,
  • consider together potential arrangements such as suitable appointment times, fees etc
  • decide whether it seems suitable for us to begin initially with a few sessions to enable us to assess together your supervision needs at this time.

About me and my therapy practice

Currently I am working in person, online (Zoom) & by mobile phone Monday - Wednesday. For those able to attend locally,  I work in person from my Grasmere consulting room.

I have more than 25 years experience working in the counselling and psychotherapy sector. I have many years of providing individual and couple therapy, and also supervision via Skype. I have significant experience as a psychotherapist in the NHS.

Alongside my usual work as a psychotherapist, analyst and supervisor, I also have a specialised training in both Parent-Infant Psychotherapy and Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT). MBT is an evidence-based talking therapy suitable for people with depression, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, and personality disorders. I am registered with the BPC as an MBT Practitioner.

Practice description

Psychotherapy aims to provide a nurturing environment in which we can come to understand ourselves:

  • who we are as individuals,
  • what our life experiences and our relationships mean to us, and
  • the ways in which our particular experiences may be affecting our lives.

Many personal and relational problems originate through early experiences of relationship with a primary care-giver and in the family, and then become established through patterns of relating with others (e.g. at school). It is not surprising therefore that relating regularly with a therapist can be an effective means of treating these difficulties.

Appointments last for 50 minutes and are arranged according to your needs and circumstances. All therapy sessions are held at regular intervals, at least once-weekly, and sometimes more often depending on your specific situation. We will agree an initial number of sessions, with a view to further on-going therapeutic work. This working alliance is reviewed on an ongoing basis.

There is usually no agenda or formal structure to the content of sessions. Important ways of accessing therapeutic help come from:

  • the ongoing regular commitment of the client and the therapist,
  • talking with and listen to one another, to establish and maintain the therapeutic relationship,
  • speaking about personal difficulties,
  • allowing the current experience of the therapeutic relationship to become evident through honest, spontaneous and direct communication about feelings, or
  • exploring and coming to understand these personal experiences, with the help of the therapist.

My first session

I provide a free initial consultation for all enquirers. This preliminary meeting is not intended to be a therapy session. It would usually take 50 mins. Meeting in this way provides an opportunity to:

• speak briefly about the concerns you wish to bring to therapy

• ask any questions about the process of therapy

• consider together potential arrangements such as suitable appointment times, fees etc

• decide whether it seems suitable for us to begin initially with a few sessions to enable us to assess together your therapy needs at this time.
