About me and my therapy practice

Welcome to my supervision profile. My name is Jon. I am a qualified and experienced Counsellor, Psychotherapist, Supervisor and a Registered Member of the BACP (MBACP). I hold a BSc Hons Degree in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy  (The Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute) and a Diploma in Clinical Supervision (The Awareness Centre London), which aligns with the BACP competence framework for supervision

As an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, my philosophy of clinical supervision is rooted in a relational developmental approach. This approach emphasises the importance of the supervisory relationship, continuous developmental growth, and reflective practice. My therapeutic model of integration includes concepts from Psychodynamic, Behavioural and Humanistic theories that align with my relational developmental perspective. Similarly as a supervisor I mirror these concepts as they inform my practice when working with supervisees.

Supervision is described by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) as a “specialised form of mentoring provided for practitioners responsible for undertaking challenging work with people. Supervision is provided to ensure standards, enhance quality, advance learning, stimulate creativity, and support the sustainability and resilience of the work being undertaken.”

Drawing from the Seven Eyed Model, Integrative Developmental Model, Cyclical Model and Creativity, I offer a reflective space in which to explore and develop your practice, thereby ensuring provision of an ethical, legal and safe therapeutic relationship with your clients. Supervision is conducted within a formal working relationship, but it can take a number of different formats such as in person or online, in groups, or on a one-to-one basis.

Practice description

Who is supervision for?

Supervision supports anyone who works relationally and emotionally with people of all ages. This may include various helping professions such as:

  • Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • Medical Professionals
  • Mental Health and Community Support Work
  • Teaching and Education
  • Childcare and Early Years Education
  • Criminal Justice and Rehabilitation
  • Crisis Intervention and Emergency Responders
  • Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy
  • Students in placement in any of the above professions

Supervision requirements vary depending on your profession, your regulatory body’s code of ethics and your individual needs. The BACP and other regulatory bodies suggest a minimum of 1.5 hours of supervision per month. However, your level of experience and/or the type of work/client group you are engaging with may affect how much supervision is required.

I have extensive experience of working within mental health services (including forensic) offering multidisciplinary approaches, along with public sector working and the organisational tensions that present when working with complex client groups. More recently I have worked within the education sector offering both group and individual supervision to teachers and education support staff.
