About me and my therapy practice

Hi, My name is Sarah Casamassima I am an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor and qualified supervisor Located in  LS14.

I'm professionally qualified to a Master’s level and Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP).

I have a Diploma in Supervision from the Leeds Centre for Psychological Development and work on a one to one basis in a collaborative, supportive and challenging manner to develop practice and personal development of both trainee and qualified counsellors.

I chose counselling as a career after receiving counselling myself following an unexpected health issue in my life. This has helped me to understand the process from a client’s point of view as well as wanting to be able to provide that support for others.

There are numerous advantages of accessing counselling are as wide-ranging as they are long-lasting. Offering a range of benefits, counselling can bring a sense of clarity to the mind and an improved sense of direction too. In the long term, counselling can help to build resilience, help to or-ganise your thoughts and feelings as well as work through past trauma re-duce anxiety and support through the grief and bereavement process.

I have been working in counselling for eight years with specific experience with anxiety, depression, bereavement, and trauma. I work with adults, couples, children and young people in an integrative way and have undertaken training in both cbt and solution focused therapy which combined with my previous training in person centered, systemic, psychodynamic and humanistic means that i can adapt to my clients need.

I have also have extensive experience with working with children and young people within school settings, face to face and via zoom (10+ years) as I am passionate about early intervention and the benefits of counselling from an early age

Practice description

I have worked in multiple settings in an integrative way with adults, children and young people. I have experience working with children in a bereavement setting and in schools (both primary and secondary). I have also worked with adults (including EAP) in both long term and short term therapy, face to face, by phone and zoom. I believe that my client experience that I have accumulated over the years has help me develop my skills as a clinical supervisor. As a supervisor I believe that a supportive and respectful environment is key I also combine that with reflection, constructive challenging (where appropriate) and evaluation of practice and what clinical professional development could be needed.

I believe that clinical supervision is a valuable part of being a clinical practitioner who works with clients. Counselling is a rewarding and challenging role and sufficient support is necessary. This is why I feel a strong therapeutic relationship built on respect and trust is my foundation for the supervision work I do to be able to take place. I encourage my supervises to be as honest and as open as they can be so that they can attain professional and personal growth, and the development of professional competence just as I aim to do in my own clinical supervision which is part of my ethical practice.
