About me and my therapy practice

I am an Integratively trained therapist and accredited member of the BACP. I am passionate about people being able to access support when they are struggling and always place clients needs and experience at the centre of my work.

I use psychoeducation at the core of my work introducing different theories or information in sessions where possible to help support you in your personal growth and to develop lifelong strategies  beyond the therapy.

I have an interest in early life experiences including early attachments and how they impact on later adulthood, believing that our early experiences form parallels with adolescence and adulthood. Many of the problems we face are linked to earlier experiences, often from childhood. Understanding our life scripts can help to challenge this narrative and support change. Examples of some of the modalities I work with are Transactional Analysis, Imagery and Metaphor, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused and Trauma informed approach.

Work with younger children is through play therapy and creative modes. Couples counselling is often solution focused, shorter term work.

Practice description

I work with children, young people, adults and couples. I hold an up to date enhanced DBS certification for working with children and young people.

Prior to counselling I had 23 years of working with children and young people in secondary and alternative provision school settings. Within this I worked in a role specifically created within North Tyneside around barriers in education including school avoidance. I currently work in schools as well as private practice.

I work relationally with an Integrative approach at the core of my work. Working Integratively means I draw upon different approaches depending on what your individual needs are, creating a bespoke approach tailored to your needs.

I am an accredited member of the BACP. I am also part of the Children, Young people and Families division of the BACP.

My first session

Prior to a first session I offer a free 15 minute telephone conversation to give you the opportunity to speak with me and ask any questions you may have, to see if I am the right therapist for you. There is no pressure during this call to book in a session with me and If you decide I am not the right therapist for you I can help you to find someone that is.

The first counselling session we will have will involve establishing your back story as well as identifying any goals you may wish to work on during your therapy.
