About me and my therapy practice
I'm quite a down to earth person, who offers a warm, nurturing and supportive approach to supervision and my work.
I think it’s important that supervisees feel heard and understood, and to me, supervision is also a place to grow and be gently challenged.
Naturally, I experience supervision from both sides and so I’m aware that supervision can feel sometimes feel daunting and can be quite a vulnerable place to be, and yet simultaneously has the potential to be incredibly supportive and empowering.
I have completed a certificate in Integrative Creative Supervision, which uses the CRAFTS framework.
I can see that many people find that working things out in a very visual or metaphorical way can be helpful and enlightening and incorporating that into supervision can be transformative for your practice.
This can be done by using various methods like, images, sand trays, metaphors etc where appropriate.
I believe that supervision should be a collaborative way of exploring how you work with, and view, your client relationships, your practice, and your own process.
Practice description
I work in Private Practice from an office in Glasgow City centre and can offer supervision whether it be long/short term, additional or ad hoc sessions, in person or online.
I am a person-centred, BACP accredited therapist who works in a creative, expressive way.
This can be done by using various methods like, images, sand trays, metaphors, writing etc where appropriate. You don't need to have any creative or artistic experience or skill, this is just about finding a way to explore your practice and self development.
I'm also currently developing training sessions in using creativity therapeutically.
As an ADHD therapist, I really enjoy working with Neurodivergent therapists and students. I have lived experience in navigating therapy/counselling training being neurodivergent which gives me a unique understanding and perspective of that experience. It's also an area in which I do a lot of CPD in. My approach is very AHD affirming.
I'm also comfortable and happy to supervise any counsellors who may like some additional supervision around their work with Neurodivergent clients, particularly ADHD clients.
I have a PG Dip in Psychotherapy, Counselling, and Psychological Well-being. I have also completed training around creative counselling with APCCA, Creative Connections Cumbria, and the Creative Counsellors Community for whom I am an Ambassador and I facilitate monthly online peer support groups for Scottish Based practitioners.
I have contributed to 'Creative Counselling with Adults' By Tanja Sharpe. and also been featured in the APCCA journal, 'The Art of insight'.
Please feel free to check these out or have a further look at my website for details about my training and experience, if you'd like to know more.
I look forward to hearing from you.
My first session
All supervisees are asked to complete a 'Supervisee agreement/contract'. This is designed to lay out what is expected from each of us in the supervisory relationship.
This is required to be completed before the first session.
The first few sessions will be finding out about you and looking at your practice and what you feel about it. You'll also be looking at me and how I work, there's a lot during this time of building both trust and the foundation of a good relationship.
To have a supervisor that you feel safe and confident in is so important.

About me and my therapy practice
Hello,
I'm Kathleen.
I offer a warm and informal way of working. Therapy can be daunting which I truly appreciate.
Not only do I work in a traditional Person Centred talking therapy way - but I can also offer a creative approach, using images, objects, sand-trays and more, but as all sessions are tailored to each clients needs, this is completely optional .
I personally have found that approach extremely powerful and effective as, frankly, sometimes finding words can be hard.
I can offer an alternative to building based therapy, with outdoor sessions if preferred.
Having an alternative way of exploring and looking at issues can be complementary to talking therapies.
Having spent the majority of my adult life working in the social care sector, I have found that counselling and psychotherapy are really where I feel I belong. I see what a difference it can make to peoples lives.
I have an interest in working with Neurodivergent clients, ADHD specifically, whether it be diagnosed or self identified. I am ADHD/ND myself and so have a particular insight into living with this and also experience of going through the assessment process.
However I must stress that I do not diagnose.
Additionally, I have worked with issues such as bereavement, trauma, grief, body image issues, depression and anxiety, gender issues, PTSD, physical and sexual abuse, adverse childhood experiences, family estrangement, chronic ill health, domestic violence, loss of a child, miscarriage, abortion, suicidal thoughts, people affected by suicide, low self-esteem and self harm.
My office is located in the city centre. Online (zoom) sessions are available. I also offer outdoor (AKA walk and Talk) Sessions and Group work.
I am a HAES and LGBTQIA+ friendly Counsellor.
Please have a look at my website for further details.
Practice description
I have regular session times, but I do aim to be flexible within that.
Sessions can be booked same time/day each week, I'm equally happy to accommodate shift patterns and I completely understand that life can be unpredictable. I believe that clients will know which frequency of sessions will work for them.
Counselling can help you make sense of things. It is an opportunity to look at patterns in your life and how you respond to them. Being very passionate about my work, I truly believe that talking therapies can have a profound effect on a person’s ability to heal, develop and move forward.
For all that I am passionate about using creativity or supporting clients in the most accessible way to express and explore their experiences, I do spend a lot of my sessions in quite traditional talking therapy if thats what the client would like. Each session is bespoke and develops in a very collaborative way between me and each person.
I aim for my practice to be Neurodivergent affirming - This is a continuing part of my professional development.
Amongst other things, I can adapt my office where possible to avoid sensory discomfort, I encourage clients who need to move around to do so, and offer things like 'fidgets' etc. Making my practice as accessible as I can is important to me.
Please check out my website for more details on my qualifications training. I'm happy to explain further, should you wish to get in touch.
My first session
First contact would be via email - I avoid answering calls from unfamiliar numbers. Although if you leave a message, I will return this.
I truly appreciate that taking the first steps towards contacting a counsellor can be daunting and incredibly brave so it’s very important to find a counsellor who you click with. Which is why I’m happy to have a chat over the phone prior to making a first appointment.
I normally offer a free, initial phonecall. This way we can both see if we are a good fit. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about how I work.
I ask all clients to complete a Client agreement - which I can explain during the initial phone chat and I'll go through again during our first session.
