About me and my therapy practice

Supervision is essential to how practitioners sustain good practice throughout their working life. Supervision provides practitioners with regular and ongoing opportunities to reflect in depth about all aspects of their practice in order to work as effectively, safely and ethically as possible. Supervision also sustains the personal resourcefulness required to undertake the work’ – BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions (2018)

Supervision is the cornerstone of my work as a psychotherapeutic counsellor and is the reason why I went on to train to become a supervisor myself, so that I might support and encourage other therapists in the way that I (and my clients) have been.

My hope is to offer the same safe, calm and kind space in supervision as I do with my clients, and for supervisees to feel well supported in doing their best therapeutic work.

I am a humanistic supervisor and work with the 7-eyed-model for supervision. I hold a CPCAB Level 6 Certificate in Counselling Therapeutic Supervision.

About me and my therapy practice

We will all have to navigate difficult experiences in our lives. At such times, talking helps. Professional counselling offers the opportunity to pause, think, explore, solve.

I’m Aveline Archer, a warm and friendly, fully qualified counsellor and counselling supervisor, and member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).

My passion for counselling began when I was working in education. It was this first hand experience as a teacher that made me realise how hard it is to flourish (young or old) without a good foundation of emotional well-being.

I now work in private practice at Saxonbury House Medical Group in Crowborough, East Sussex.

My aim is to offer a safe space in which you can share and explore anything you’d like to talk about.

In doing so, and through this process, I hope to support you in gaining a greater understanding of yourself so that you will then be better placed with your thoughts, feelings and decisions moving forward.

Practice description

The type of counselling I subscribe to is called ‘humanistic’. Core to this approach is the belief that we each have within ourselves the self-knowledge and ability to identify our own problems and solutions.

Sometimes, this can take a little time and some unpeeling of layers before we get to the core of who we really are and where we need to be.

The role of counsellor, therefore, is not one of advisor but companion, as you talk and work through the things that are troubling you, and begin to make sense of them.

To this therapeutic relationship I promise to bring a listening ear, empathy, honesty and respect, whilst you provide expertise in the one thing that really matters in all this … you.

My first session

I offer counselling sessions generally on a weekly basis, lasting 50-minutes each time.

The counselling room here at Saxonbury House is comfortable and private, a non-judgemental space in which to talk about whatever it is that you would like to, with the assurance of confidentiality and empathy.

During a first session, we will typically discuss together:

The presenting issue and surrounding context

How I work and what to expect

Confidentiality

The number of sessions that might be appropriate for you.

There is no obligation to continue after a first initial session.

The cost of each session is £60-£100 (depending on whether you are an individual or a couple) which can be paid in person or banking online.

24 hours’ notice is required for cancellation without being charged.

Our work together can either be short-term (6 to 12 weeks) or long-term (open ended); this can be discussed when we meet.
