Hello, my name is Tom, and I am a supervisor, therapist, tutor and writer. For me supervision is all about the relationship and offering you the kind of specific support you are looking for, this would involve tailoring my approach to you and your needs. I have qualifications in counselling, psychotherapy, clinical supervision, business administration and media production. All skills I aim to bring into my work as a supervisor.

Sessions will be held online via Zoom, the link for Zoom will be emailed to you along with a reminder the day before your supervision session.

About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Tom and I am a supervisor, therapist, tutor and writer. You can find out more about me on my website or my business Instagram @newhcounselling.

The aim of Supervision with me:

I like to offer something different with supervision, something that offers a range of support related to my experience and knowledge.

The overall purpose of supervision is firstly to monitor and promote the welfare of your clients. However, I do not forget you in this, meaning we need to consider your needs as a therapist.

I recognise that many of my supervisees are running their own business, developing their private practice or looking to create or expand their practice. Therefore supervision with me adds elements of business and marketing support and an acknowledgement of the stress running a business can bring.

Personal development is also an important part of practice, so supervision with me holds a space where we can work on your growing edges.

I will aim to help you focus on the development of your professional identity and skills, encouraging an authentic you, an authentic practice. This might involve your work as a volunteer, in an organisation or within private practice.

Finally my work is shame free - I do not want my supervisees to fear what they bring to supervision. As therapists we all have sessions where we don't feel we were "good enough", brining these sessions to me enables us to work on making next time better.

What I ask of you:

Be open and contribute to the development of an effective working relationship.

Be prepared for supervision with a rough idea of what you want from each session.

Discuss client caseload, issues arising and prepare for supervision.

Be prepared to give and receive feedback.

Consult me or other forms of supervision in cases of an emergency.

Do not fear sharing your work. Even if you have not been "good enough", I want to hear it so we can work on ways to change and be better.

Practice description

What you can expect working with me:

The supervision I offer is based on a fortnightly basis, sessions last 50 minutes and priced at £70.00.

My work as a therapist works closely with the importance of intersectionality with a special focus on working with queer clients and neurodivergent clients. Therefore these are areas that I incorporate into supervision too.

I have worked in private practice since 2018 offering clients an integrative approach and providing over 5500 clinical hours. Much of my work supports clients with depression, anxiety, relationships, identity, self-esteem, parenting, adoption, existential thoughts and the search for meaning.

My clients might also be going through life changes, looking to explore themselves or understand, challenge & change behaviours.

I have worked with several well established Counselling agencies where I gained a wide range of experience. I have worked with Place 2 Be where I worked therapeutically with children ages 7 -10 in Croydon, St Christoper's Hospice working within their adult bereavement team, and METRO Charity, working with members of the LGBTQ+ community, asylum seekers and people living with or affected by HIV.

My first session

When you get in touch we can arrange an initial supervision appointment. In this first appointment we can get to know each other and get a feel for if we are a good fit, there will also be time for you to discuss your client work. Should you then feel I am the supervisor for you we can arrange ongoing monthly or fortnightly supervision.
