About me and my therapy practice
I am a certified play therapist with 10 years experience working with children struggling with a range of issues and mental health difficulties, including family breakdown, bereavement, anxiety, ADHD and ASC. I have worked with many children who have experienced trauma, including children in foster care and who have been adopted.
I am a registered member of BACP and PTUK. I receive regular supervision and I am also a certified clinical supervisor of play therapists.
I have enhanced DBS clearance and up to date safeguarding training.
Practice description
All sessions are face-to-face and take place in a fully equipped private play therapy space in a wood cabin in my garden. I have a wide range of creative tools for clients to use freely, including art resources, clay, sand, miniatures, puppets, roleplay, music and games. Children communicate far more effectively through play than through talking and a range of play equipment ensures they are able to choose their preferred means.
I use a person-centred, mainly non-directive approach. I offer an empathic, accepting space where clients can explore their feelings in a safe, confidential, non-judgmental environment.
My first session
Prior to commencing work I will take a detailed history of the child and the difficulties they are experiencing. If we decide to proceed with therapy sessions I will then email a contract and other paperwork. I will then meet with the child and parent(s) together for a brief session and may then have a short introductory session with the child before beginning the regular therapy sessions.
