About me and my therapy practice

I work in a collaborative way, providing a comfortable space for you to explore different aspects of your work.

I have experience of working with therapists, counsellors, trainees, as well as a variety of health care professionals.

I trained with RELATE when I worked in the NHS which provided a grounding n the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision.  I am currently in the process of completing a Diploma in Supervision with the Karuna Institute, studying a Contemplative Model of Supervision.

I can offer:-

- space to explore what is going on for your clients, for you and within your relationship with each other;

- time to consider your own resourcing to sustain yourself in this process

- reflection about your own processes and development as a person and as a practitioner

- knowledge and understanding of working with clients who have who have complex issues

- an appreciation of the wider context in which you practice

Practice description

MY MODEL OF SUPERVISION

I completed a Diploma in Mindfulness-based Contemplative Supervision at the Karuna Institute, Dartmoor. Contemplative Supervision was developed by Karen Kessel Wegela at the Naropa Institute in Colorado. I find it aligns with the way I practice.

In Contemplative Supervision the supervisor and supervisee bring a mindful awareness to the three elements of client observation – body, speech and mind.

The idea here is that we use the elements of body, speech and mind to metaphorically bring the client into the room, by bringing our awareness and kind attention to different aspects of the client.

This process is mindfulness based and we are noticing, without judgement, without trying to fix the client, but just being present with what is.

Contemplative Supervision is rooted in relational mindfulness. I bring a compassionate awareness where supervisees are welcomed non-judgementally just as they are in the moment. This helps create the grounding of safety and trust, allowing for the exploration of challenging and difficult material when needed.

Contemplative Supervision offers a model for expanding our awareness of clients and our own reactions, and is particularly helpful in situations where we feel stuck. For therapists who work outdoors, as I do sometimes, it can be a helpful way of supporting the work, by noticing the richness of the natural environment and our interactions with it.

Contact me if you're interested in Contemplative Supervision to support the development of your practice.

I welcome enquiries from counsellors and therapists who work indoors, outdoors or online.

About me and my therapy practice

I offer a space where you can explore past patterns in order to bring increased awareness and understanding to the present, opening up possibilities for change and personal growth. We often reach a point in our lives where our old ways of coping aren't working anymore, or our old patterns are getting in the way of us being our full selves. This can be experienced as a crisis point, when things come to a head, which can feel difficult and challenging but is a great time to come to therapy and explore what's happening so we can move forward with our lives.

Practice description

Sessions are available in a comfortable and spacious room at Mount Batten, next to the sea, a beautiful location for slowing down, reflecting and taking time for yourself. The therapeutic relationship is different from other relationships – it has boundaries and contains the qualities of warmth, acceptance and compassion. This provides a safe space to explore vulnerabilities, holding them in a kind awareness and attention, allowing for personal growth and change.

I am friendly and easy to talk to. I have over 20 years experience as a therapist, working within the NHS and in Private Practice. My approach is warm and compassionate.

My first session

The first session is an opportunity to share your story, to reflect on what's been happening for you to seek therapy at this time and to think about what you'd like to achieve. This is also a time to meet and see if we both feel we can work together - it's really important to find someone that you feel comfortable with.

If you feel you that I might be someone you’d like to work with, contact me for an initial telephone conversation.
