About me and my therapy practice

I have a Diploma in Supervision and have been practising as a Supervisor for 4 1/2 years. I have supervised counsellors from various organisations, including  School counsellors ,Counsellors in private practice, counsellors in a faith based organisation, as well as staff in a  Hospice.

I am a BACP accredited therapist and work face to face, online or over the phone. I have had 14 years of Counselling experience and have worked in the following organisations: Cruse Bereavement Care, The Market Place, Place2Be, Solace, Leeds University, Northpoint Wellbeing (offering counselling to children and young  people in schools) and St. Gemma’s Hospice. I am now working as a therapist and supervisor in private practice.  I am committed to practising ethically and adhere to the ethical framework set out by BACP.

Practice description

As a Supervisor, my first priority is to set up a supportive, safe working relationship of empathy, honesty and mutual respect built on trust. I believe that the effectiveness of both Counselling and Supervision is dependent on the quality of the relationship between the Counsellor/Client and the Supervisor/ Supervisee. I know from my own experience of Supervision how crucial it is to feel supported and safe in this work and how it has enhanced my own skills and self awareness.

I see the relationship as a collaborative one, firstly  to reflect on the content and process of the work so the supervisee can build on their skills, self awareness and understanding and also to ensure the safety of the client by discussing any aspects of risk- I am able to be supportive and calm, especially in anxiety provoking situations and to support the counsellor, so they are not alone in trying to manage these.  I give space for the supervisee to explore the emotional impact of the work on themselves and I see my role as supporting their wellbeing and continuing professional development, as well as their work.   We will set up clear boundaries and regular reviews so that the supervisee has the opportunity to talk about the usefulness of the supervision and the way the supervisory relationship is going.

I am committed to understanding organisational policies and supporting the counsellor to adhere to them as well as the BACP Ethical framework.

My first session

I offer an initial free of charge session either face to face or on Zoom, to explore what the supervisee is looking for and decide whether we could work together. We would have the opportunity to discuss openly both of our expectations so that supervision can become and remain a collaborative experience.
