About me and my therapy practice
Sometimes life events can overwhelm us, and we can feel stuck and unable to find a way forward. At other times we just need someone who will really listen to us and treat us with respect. At these times talking to a professional can be helpful and this will take great courage to ask for help. The therapeutic relationship is different from other relationships because it is all about you. I am pleased that you are considering whether counselling could help you. It is vital that a trusting relationship is built up, which is supportive and non-judgmental. My hope in facilitating this process, is to empower you and to help you find resources within yourself.
Counselling is a therapeutic process where verbal communication is the tool to understanding difficulties. It is very different from social interaction, advice, or suggestion. Therapy is a place where a person can expect to be listened to at the deepest level and is a safe place for you to help yourself to move forward. It is also for you to consider your own needs in dealing with what matters to you and it is a way of empowering yourself when you are experiencing difficulties in finding yourself.
During one’s lifetime it is not unusual to have times of difficulty and sadness; or to feel ill at ease with oneself. It may be that those difficulties are short lived or prolonged. No matter how big or small the challenges faced, the counselling experience offered will be professional, confidential, safe, supportive, and ethical. As an integrative counsellor, I do not work with a one size fits all approach. My belief is that each person is a unique individual, who seeks counselling for different reasons with the hope of gaining a positive outcome in life.
Practice description
I trained in Humanistic Counselling (Person-centred), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). After qualifying as a counsellor and supervisor, I then continued my training to become a practitioner in Nero-Linguistics Programming (N.L.P) so that I could add coaching to the services I offer.
I balance my life with music, singing, meditating, walking, dancing, and writing, as well as spending time with family and friends.
My first session
I am an experienced accredited (by the BACP) qualified counsellor and clinical supervisor. I can assist you with a range of issues, problems, and difficulties that you may have in your life. I work in a safe, caring, and non-judgmental environment.
Counselling takes place in a warm, positive, and confidential environment with off the road car parking. Sessions last for one hour and can take place to suit your needs.
Our first meeting will give you the chance to see whether counselling is right for you. Even after a short period of therapy, clients have reported to me that they have become more aware and in control of their problems and how they have managed their problems more effectively. They might also feel happier and fulfilled with themselves and with their lives. In our counselling contract I will work very closely with you, forming an equal working relationship that will empower you to explore and address the issues that most concern you. I believe the aim of counselling is to bring change and awareness and to allow clients to reflect on their thinking, feeling and behaviour.
Issues I often work with
- Work related issues, stress at work, feeling low and without motivation.
- Relationship issues, bereavement and loss, abuse
- Isolation, mental health, spirituality
- Self-esteem, anxiety, loneliness
- Depression, anger, bullying
- Identity, culture
I work face to face telephone or via video with individuals – adults, young people and with couples. Session lasts one hour, and the number of sessions can be long or short term. I feel it is important to address each client’s needs individually and I am happy to discuss any worries, expectations, or goals for counselling. The first session is a time to discuss the most helpful way of working together, with no obligation to continue; clients can book further appointments if they wish to do so.
