I offer supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors and psychotherapists and work with individuals as well as groups.

I provide a safe, supportive and well contained setting for supervisees to be able to delve deeper into the work that they are exploring and address any challenging significant difficulties. I aim to help you develop as a therapist through insight, reflection, gentle challenging and encouragement.

Supervision is a place to understand not only your clients but also yourself. To learn & develop effective ways of working. To work on the difficult but also to celebrate the positive. My aim in supervision is to create a space that supports your development both professionally & personally. Also for you to do the best by your clients.

My approach to supervision is based on the Seven-Eyed model of supervision developed by Peter Hawkins and Robin Shohet. The 7 Eyed Model of Supervision is one of the most well-known and widely used supervision models.

This model is a map, a framework, with which to view the landscape of supervision and that enables supervisee (s) to navigate their supervision practice with increasing confidence. At its heart, this model is about inviting a diversity of views and perspectives. It combines both the psychodynamic as well as systems understanding of how things connect. It creates space for the exploration of the relationships at play.

I tend to advise to have an initial consultation to get to know each other. As finding the ‘right’ supervisor is possibly one of the most important aspects for a successful outcome in supervision.

Usually the first part of the consultation is talking about the supervisees experience, wishes and areas of development and in the second part of the session we will talk about how to work together, expectations, needs and possible challenges.

I am a qualified integrative counsellor, psychotherapist and a Family practitioner as well as a Clinical Supervisor with more than 20 years of experience in the NHS and private health organisations, with an extensive experience working with individuals, families, couples and children. I am currently in my private Practice near Tonbridge. 

I am multilingual and culturally aware and welcome clients from any background. I have a personal and clinical interest in issues relating to cultural identity, a sense of belonging, and feelings of being 'uprooted'. I am a trauma informed psychotherapist working closely with issues related to transgenerational, ancestral and emotional inherited trauma. 

Through individual, family therapy, couple's therapy and parental consultations I help individuals, couples, families, parents and children strengthen and improve their relationships, functioning at school, home and their own environment.

Psychodynamic theory suggests a clear set of defensive processes and client’s unconscious material as well as the importance of early attachment relationship to the developing of one’s capacity for reflective functioning. It suggests that anything to do with past and present relationships is likely to be reflected in the therapeutic relationship. As a result, I listen carefully to what the client says and what remains unsaid. I utilize my own process, self-awareness and intuitive responses as a means of exploring what it might be going on in the here and now that may provide some information about past experiences. I pay much attention to the social cultural context of the client, including issues of ethnicity, gender and power. 

When thinking systemically, I draw my reflections from Narrative theory and help my clients to become more aware of the stories and narratives they use to describe their experience and to reflect on how they have become trapped in certain stories about their life. 

Attachment theory and Systemic thinking emphasise healing through the influence of a significant other and focus on the layers of history and how the same patterns become enacted over and over again. I recognise the importance of attachment styles to healthy family functioning and of establishing a secure base from which family members may be able to explore new ideas and pay attention where dynamics originate and how they became elaborated. When the patterns are identified, there is a possibility that the family and/or couple might be able to make changes. 

It is often a big step to enter counselling. In order to get the most out of this experience it will be helpful to think about the following information. 

Finding the ‘right' counsellor is really important, the ‘fit’ between your counsellor and individual//couple// family is possibly one of the most important aspects for a successful outcome in therapy; so choosing carefully is key. What I tend to advise is to have an initial consultation to get to know each other. Usually the first part of the consultation is talking about the difficulties and concerns that lead you to seeking counselling at this time and in the second part of the session we will talk about solutions, changes, and where you    (all//both) want to be when we have a successful outcome.

The duration of the therapeutic process will depend on the type of difficulty or problem the client is facing. Some people prefer to work with an open contract, whereas other people prefer to work with a fixed number of sessions followed by a review. In all cases, every six sessions the client and I will review the therapeutic process together. This helps to assess whether the client’s needs are being met and, this will also help (if required) to carry out the necessary adjustments and/or establish new goals for the process. 

Our work together is confidential and remains within our counselling room. However there are a couple of exceptions to this. In order for me to provide the best counselling service possible and to comply with the BACP ethical standards, I attend supervision on a regular basis. Also if I feel that you or someone else is at risk or at significant risk I would, wherever possible, discuss with you the possibility of breaking confidentiality to obtain further support for you.
