About me and my therapy practice

I have recently completed the taught hours 60) of my supervisor training at the Counselling Hub in Southend. I now need to complete the required number of supervision hours, so am offering a discounted price.

I have a therapy room at home, which is comfortable and private, and off road parking.

I can also offer Zoom sessions, if required.

I work at a school on Tuesday and Wednesday so would not normally be available on those days.

Practice description

My background is in both further and secondary education as an English teacher.

I taught at York College for ten years, and then for 18 years in secondary schools, most of them at the same school, where I am now employed as a counsellor. I completed my Advanced Diploma in Person Centred Counselling 9 years ago. I am a registered member of the BACP.

As I work in a school, I complete the safeguarding, Prevent and FGM training every ear. I work closely with our DSL and our Engagement Officer in supporting our most disaffected pupils. I liaise with form tutors Heads of Year and with parents to the same end, all the while being aware of the need to maintain confidentiality.

I have undertaken additional training in Disordered Eating, Body Image, Harmful Sexual Behaviour and Suicide and Self Harm over the last few years. I have also supported children with gender issues quite often over the years. I am currently completing an ADHD course.

We use the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire to identify need and to monitor progress. My sessions are recorded using a system called CPOMS, which I found daunting at first, but now feel that, as we are a team whose aim is to support our students, some sharing is part of safeguarding.

As stated, I am person centred, believing that each of us has the ability to be happy by being becoming who we want to be, and in the power of Unconditional Positive Regard

I also use some aspects of CBT, such as gentle challenge, homework (!) and Socratic Questioning

My first session

I wish to use the first session getting to know my supervisees, and what they expect and need from me.

My training used the 7 eyed model, and, where necessary, I would explain which aspect we were looking at, and why.

I am offering a discounted rate at present, so would not be offering a further reduction in most cases.
