About me and my therapy practice

I have been a counsellor for 24 years and have a lot of experience working in many different counselling settings.  I am BACP Accredited and registered. It can be a big decision to come to counselling and can feel very daunting but one that can change your life. I would really like to support you in working towards  achieving this outcome. I can offer you a safe, confidential space where whatever your reasons for seeking counselling will be heard, respected and valued.

I work in an Integrative way. This means that I work in a way that takes all aspects of you into consideration and we work collaboratively together.  We would look at your past life experiences and relationships as these might help us understand what you are experiencing in the present. We would look at what is going on for you now and think about how this might be managed. We would think about what you might like going forward and possible ways of achieving this. Everything you think and feel would be the focus and whatever is right for you will always be at the heart of our work together.

People from all walks of life come to counselling for many different reasons. It might be that you are experiencing a crisis in your life or perhaps a change in personal or professional circumstances which might be distressing for you. You might be struggling with difficult or unexplained emotions from the past or the present which might be impacting on your capacity to enjoy your life in the way that you would like. You might be experiencing difficulties in relationships with others and noticing that certain patterns of behaviour keep repeating leading to similar outcomes. Or you might be unsure of what you are looking for but just feel unfulfilled in some way and would like to have a better understanding of yourself to help you move forward in your life in a more satisfying way. Counselling can be so helpful in exploring and understanding what it is that is going on in your life.

Practice description

I work in Private Practice and have a therapy room tucked away in the corner of my garden away from the main house. It is a small room, quiet and private. It is a single storey building giving easy access to anyone with mobility issues. There is a designated parking space on the drive for client use.

I work with individuals 18+ on a one- to- one basis and I also work with couples and offer relationship counselling. I offer both open ended work (no time limit, can be longer term) and short-term work. I offer face-to-face sessions, online sessions (via zoom) and telephone sessions.

Sessions are weekly unless otherwise agreed and they are 60 minutes in duration. I charge £50 per session for individuals and £70 per session for couples. Concessions might be available in some circumstances. I also offer a free 15-minute introductory telephone call in which we can think about what you would like from counselling and whether I might be the right therapist for you. It will also provide an opportunity for you to ask any questions about counselling that you might like to. The telephone call is completely optional.

If you feel I might be of help to you then please get in touch, I would be very pleased to hear from you.

My first session

The first session will be a bit different to any subsequent sessions as there are certain things I will need to find out from you and talk about.

We would need to talk about the confidentiality I am able to offer and the contractual elements of our work. I would need to find out a bit more about you, what brings you to counselling and what you would like to achieve from counselling. This means I would be asking more questions than I might do usually. You would not be required to fill in any paperwork. This session would also provide you with the opportunity to get a better sense of me and whether you would like to work with me and the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. We would then agree a way forward from here.

The fee for this session is £50 and it will be 60 minutes long.
