About me and my therapy practice
I am an Integrative Psychotherapist Counsellor based in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, and currently practicing both online and face to face (in the Thirsk area only). My private client work is based in both the Thirsk and Leeds areas working with children, young people and adults.
Following an early career in Education and Training in Industry, my interest in mental health and wellbeing led me to supporting young people and children in a school counselling role and later to working privately with individuals seeking support.
I am now also a qualified supervisor offering supervision to qualified counsellors on a private basis.
Practice description
My supervision practice is based around a Developmental model and provides relevant support and feedback to the supervisee whilst simultaneously facilitating the supervisee’s progression to the next developmental stage. This is done by encouraging the supervisee to use existing knowledge and skills to produce new learning, and then subsequently introducing more knowledge and skills from the next stage. Throughout this process the supervisee is learning new skills but is also, through the interaction during supervision, fostering the development of more advanced critical thinking skills. The gaining in understanding and awareness for the supervisee of their own psychological processes can stimulate valuable reflection and growthMy approach attends to both the patient and supervisee material and also scrutinises the relationship between myself and the supervisee allowing me to participate in a relational sense in the process, identifying themes and reflecting on process including the identification of parallel process.
My first session
At the initial session we will primarily meet to gain an understanding of one another, our expectations of the supervisory process and how we might work productively together. I offer an honest, open and confidential arena within which to explore your client work and your own responses to it - both conscious and subconscious. The professional relationship which establishes between us will be key to the success of our work together, will support safe practice , self-care and professional growth.

About me and my therapy practice
The initial consultation with a client generally lasts between 50 minutes and one hour and is offered at a nominal fee of £20. For those who have not received counselling or psychotherapy before, the initial meeting can seem daunting and it is normal to experience an element of anxiety or nerves before the first consultation. Our first meeting is an opportunity for us to gather a general sense of each other and of the presenting issue. An essential component of any successful counselling is the therapeutic relationship which develops between us; that is one of trust, confidentiality, genuineness and non-judgment, and it is important therefore that we feel we can work constructively together. The initial meeting is also an opportunity for the client to gather information as to what to expect and to ask any questions. You will not be asked to book any subsequent sessions or commit to any therapy following our initial meeting. You will leave the consultation with all necessary information and the onus is entirely upon you, the client, to make any further contact to commence therapy. I have been trained to work within a multi-modal approach, drawing on behavioural, psychoanalytical and person centred therapy. I am also able to draw on other techniques and models such as Transactional Analysis, CBT, Relational and Gestalt.
Practice description
I practice Integrative Counselling and as the name infers, this brings together elements from different psychotherapeutic approaches with the aim of understanding the whole person and applying theoretical models that work for that individual. Integrative therapists believe that many theories and modalities are valuable, but no one specific approach will offer the best treatment for everyone; in other words, 'one size does not fit all'. Each client needs to be considered as an individual, and therapeutic techniques tailored to the person, rather than the person to the therapy.
Integrative counselling addresses the behavioural, emotional, cognitive and physiological systems within the client, whilst also addressing social and spiritual aspects and considering the client's personality, needs and belief systems.
