About me and my therapy practice
NB: During the present coronavirus situation, I am offering video consultation by Zoom rather than meeting supervisees face-to-face. This is a mode of consultation that I have used previously in applicable circumstances, and it is possible for effective work to take place. I have completed over 100 hours of training in online counselling and will continue to offer therapy and supervision via this mode for the foreseeable future.
My qualifications include a Masters in Counselling & Psychology, a second Masters in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, a Postgraduate Certificate in the Supervision of Counselling, a Diploma in Relationship Counselling, a Diploma in Sexual Addiction Counselling, and a Certificate in Psychosexual Studies. I am currently studying for a Diploma in Psychosexual Therapy.
Practice description
Many years working as a Principal Adult Psychotherapist in the NHS, both with a Mental Health Team and in a Primary Care Counselling Service, gave me considerable experience in helping both experienced counsellors and therapists as well as helping trainees and those new to the profession develop their skills and self-confidence. I also have extensive experience of the dynamics of working in private practice, and my current Consultancy with a national counselling organisation regularly gives me insight into a wide range of ethical and relational dilemmas.
I see the purpose of supervision as giving counsellors and therapists opportunity to discuss their client work regularly with another experienced and competent practitioner, who is trained and experienced in the process of counselling supervision. I believe in the power of encouragement and affirmation, accompanied by a firm understanding of boundaries and reflection.
Supervision ideally takes place within the context of a consistent and reliable relationship, and aims to enable the practitioner to develop new options for managing themselves and their work with greater satisfaction and effectiveness. Several different functions can be covered as appropriate at different times, including: (a) monitoring clinical work against professional and ethical standards; (b) supporting the practitioner, and giving opportunity for discharge and recharge of emotional batteries; (c) encouraging the practitioner's continuing self-development and training in skills, knowledge and understanding.

About me and my therapy practice
"Find a way - find yourself." I like to help people find realistic ways to deal with distressing issues in their lives, but also to help people find themselves, shaking off the expectations and controls that others may attempt to impose.
Practice description
Clients say that I am someone with whom it is possible to be at ease and to speak openly about troubling matters. I aim to provide a consistent and reliable resource which can help you to understand and accept yourself better and to gain a greater sense of control over your life.
Although able to deal with a wide range of issues, I specialise in dealing with sexual and relationship problems. Great distress can be caused by matters such as erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation in males, difficulties in receiving penetration in females, or issues such as a loss of desire, or inability to reach orgasm. There is no shame and much to be gained from speaking with a qualified and experienced psychosexual psychotherapist to discover ways to respond to and hopefully overcome such issues.
Similarly, if you are afflicted by compulsive or addictive sexual behaviour, or if you are in a relationship with such a person, an experienced and sensitive therapist can help you gain much in terms of developing self-understanding and an increased sense of self-confidence in your life and your relationships.
NB: I work completely by video counselling by Zoom rather than meeting clients face-to-face. This is a mode of counselling that can be therapeutically effective and saves clients travelling time and costs.
My qualifications include a Masters in Counselling & Psychology, a second Masters in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, a Diploma in Psychosexual Psychotherapy and a Certificate in Psychosexual Studies. I also have a Diploma in Relationship Counselling, a Diploma in Sexual Addiction Counselling, and a Postgraduate Certificate in the Supervision of Counselling.
