About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced qualified Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist.
I have been practising privately for 22 years with adults from 18 to 80 years old.
In the past I have experience working
Privately -
I have worked with people who have self referred and who want to work on issues which are causing them pain and anxiety - either caused by recent events or aspects of their lives which have been difficult for them for a long time.
Early experience of poor care and difficult family relationships are very likely to affect our sense of self and our emotional well being in later life.
I have also in a GP Surgery - people coming with all sorts of issues which are affecting their well-being.
I have also in Student Counselling Services - Working with students who have personal problems to deal with while they study.
Before training as a Psychotherapist I was a full-time University Lecturer in English Literature at Dublin University.
As a student I obtained a first class degree in French and English Literature in Dublin and a post graduate degree on the novels of George Eliot from Cambridge University.
My interest in character and emotions in fiction let led me to train as a psychotherapist and counsellor in order to work with people experiencing difficulties in their lives.
Wherever I work I aim to establish a relaxed, informal and friendly relationship quickly so that we can begin to look at what may be difficult and painful issues easily with a feeling of safety, respect and confidence. We then consider what might help you in our sessions together.
I offer short term work - up to 12 sessions
Longer if the issues require more time.
This can be discussed when we meet.
