About me and my therapy practice

I understand how scary it can be to make that first move to get the help you need. I would like to reassure you that trust and respect are integral to the way I work as a counsellor.

Counselling is a very personal experience and is different for everyone.  I offer a safe and confidential space enabling you to start exploring your difficulties, without judgment or criticism.

When your world feels unpredictable, changes large or small can make you feel unstable and/or uprooted.  In the environment of The Oak Therapy Room, I can support you to find your feet once again, either on new ground or that which is familiar.  You do not have to face these changes alone, together we will go at your pace and with what you need.

As well as talking therapy, I also offer a creative way of working. This can be using mediums such as paints, clay and craft. Working this way offers a safe and tentative exploration for hidden or unknown feelings, which may bring an impetus for change.

I have over 19 years experience working with Adults, Young People and Children.  For over twelve years, I worked within Education supporting young people close to permanent exclusion.   I also have over 4 years experience working within the NHS.  Working as part of a nursing team within CAMHs on an inpatient ward, supporting young people who were unable to keep themselves safe within the community.

Having experience in working with issues such as Grief, Bereavement, Post Traumatic Stress and Depression as a counsellor, offering an empathic and compassionate environment is fundamental to the way I work.

My first session

My initial session is free and can last for up to an hour.

This appointment offers an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for me to answer any questions you may have.

If you feel that The Oak Therapy Room is the right place for you, we can then go ahead and discuss when you would like your first session.

If you feel you would like some time to think about what you would like to do, that is absolutely your choice.
