I am currently still working mainly online. If you wish to explore the idea of face-to-face supervision, please let me know and we can discuss possible options for this.
I tend to work with supervisees on Monday afternoons, and sometimes on Friday mornings, but if those times are inconvenient for you, I will consider alternatives.
I do not currently offer evening sessions for supervision.
£50 for one hour; £65 for 90 minutes
About me and my therapy practice
I like to work in a collegiate and exploratory way; the two of us coming together to explore possibilities.
I practice supervision relationally and integratively, using Hawkins & Shohet’s seven eyed model, having completed certificate training in supervision from the Macclesfield Counselling & Training Centre.
My own counselling work is one-to-one with adults, and I am currently available to supervise qualified practitioners who also work with adult clients.
Practice description
What is clinical supervision for you?
For some, it is a chore demanded by being a member of a professional organisation. For others, it is about problem solving; a pragmatic way to get help with client-work when feeling stuck.
It could be a monitoring exercise; a part of the job that will hopefully keep us out of trouble. Or maybe, it's a challenging way to look at our work with clients; to keep what we do fresh and interesting; a reminder of why we came into the profession, and of what keeps us here.
For me, all of the above can apply at different times, although I’m pleased to say it rarely feels like a chore. And if it does, that can generate some very useful discussion and reflection on practice that always leads to a feeling of growth and renewal.
As your supervisor, I would aim to really explore with you, what is happening in your client work, and equally, what is happening to you within and as a result of your client work.
I offer an opportunity for you as a therapist, to work alongside another colleague, towards a shared set of client-focused goals; simultaneously challenging and supporting your unique experience of your work.
My first session
I suspect that the approach we take to supervision says plenty about the approach we take to our counselling work; and that is something that I enjoy looking at as a starting point to a supervisory relationship.
Our first session together will enable you to explore just what it is that you want from your supervision. This, together with discussion around some of the practicalities, will help to inform the formation of a contract for our work together.
Please email me indicating when you are available. I will then get back to you with a suggested date/time when we can 'meet', together with any further information you may need.
Please note, I only supervise work with adults.

My worktimes/days are
Tuesday and Thursday: online clients (am/pm, last appointment: 5:30pm)
Wednesday (pm): face-to-face clients at Swansea Wellbeing Centre
Monday (pm) and Friday (am): Supervision
There can be a small waiting list for face-to-face appointments.
I have greater flexibility on appointment times etc. when working online. It is possible that we may start online (which I like to do anyway) and depending on your availability, it may then be possible to meet face-to-face when those appointments become available.
About me and my therapy practice
I work integratively, from a person centred base. This means that my work starts with you, and where you are; after all, there is no greater expert on you, than you. You will direct where we go, and I will make observations and suggestions of things that you may not have noticed or thought about. I may use different 'techniques' that come from various modes of therapy.
I work relationally; the relationship between us being integral to the counselling process, and I encourage you to ask if you want to know more about how we are working together and to be open about what is - and crucially, what isn't - working for you.
I also work existentially, believing that 'uncertainty' is ultimately what brings each of us into therapy. And what times of uncertainty we are currently living in...
I have experience of working with people of various ages, genders and backgrounds, and have worked in an NHS service and a prison. I have recently moved from Manchester, where the location of my private practice privileged me with plenty of experience of working with students, young adults and those working education.
Practice description
My face-to-face work takes place at Swansea Wellbeing Centre, on Wednesday afternoon/evenings.
I also continue to work from home using Zoom, where I have a dedicated room, that is not used by other members of my household. I work with earphones, so if anything could be overheard it would only ever be my end of a conversation.
While this is not ideal for some, many are reporting remote forms of counselling as better than expected, and some are finding it - perhaps paradoxically - easier to be open than when in the closer proximity of working face-to-face.
My first session
Our first counselling session together, is free for you; for that reason, I will generally 'meet' you for the first time, on Zoom, whatever your preference for future sessions. (Please let me know if there is a reason why that is problematic for you.)
The first session is really your opportunity to interview me for the job of being your counsellor. And if I am to get the job, I need to be right for you. You feeling comfortable talking with me, is a good early indication.
I will offer you a chance to outline what has brought you to counselling, and why now. This will enable you to start to get a taste of how I work, and more importantly, how well the two of us may work together.
We will discuss some of the things that are important for a successful counselling relationship, including confidentiality (and its limits), and what you can expect from me in practical terms.
If you know there and then that you would like to continue, we can book a next session. If you are meeting other counsellors first, want some time to think about it, or do not wish to proceed, there is no obligation, nor any need to explain.
If you contact me via email, please let me know when you are available. I will then email you an appointment with a Zoom link and some further information, that should help us to meet online without complications.
