About me and my therapy practice

Counselling or therapy enables you to discuss your personal challenges, in a confidential environment. It can assist you in exploring and understand yourself and support you in building emotional resilience. It can also enable you to develop your autonomy and trust in your own choices about your life.

With all that life throws at us; work challenges, relationship issues, stress, anxiety and a global pandemic - it takes a toll on our mental wellbeing. It might be that you are experiencing a difficult time right now or be wanting to move away from the past that keeps holding you back. Through the counselling that I offer, you are offered a unique space to explore these issues and I will listen, without judgement or prejudice, aiming to understand your world and supporting you through your difficult times.

My approach (Integrative) allows me to be informed by a number theories (transactional analysis, person centred, CBT, attachment and early relationships, DBT) that enable me to understand your world from many different perspectives. I find this provides flexibility to how I work with clients. Personally, I believe in every person's potential for growth, given the right conditions and this person centred approach to being with clients, is at the heart of my work.

The areas that I focus my work in now includes:

Depression, anxiety, generalised anxiety, social anxiety, separation anxiety, low mood, feeling sad, family issues, trauma, abuse, relationship issues, loss, work-related stress, stress, self-injury and harm and suicidal thoughts. I also work with personality disorders and neurodiversity.

My first session

Initially, I offer a free 30 min discussion over the telephone/zoom to understand what it is you are looking for in therapy and explain the way I work, to gauge whether we are a good fit.

Following this, I will provide information on the services I provide for you to consider in your own time or suggest alternative services.

Our first appointment enables me to understand further the challenges you face to build understanding, the relationship and respond to any questions you may have, exploring how we can work together. Through this, we will outline an agreement on how we will work together, outlining the professional aspects of the relationship, such as confidentiality and its limitations.

It can be strange discussing personal information with someone in the first session, but I assure you that your wellbeing and safety is at the heart of my work. There is certain information that I gather when working together, which includes basic contact information, emergency contact, GP details and history relevant to counselling. These are stored inline with GDPR guidelines.
