Availability

I currently have availability for online sessions via Skype or Teams and telephone.  I am seeing clients nationally and internationally.  My hours are 10am to 5pm weekdays.

About me and my therapy practice

I provide counselling and psychotherapy for adults and young people aged 11+ with emotional, psychological and behavioural problems.  I work with clients with stress and anxiety disorders, depression, social phobias, low self-esteem, family/relationship issues, work related stress and disordered eating conditions.

I also work with neurodivergent clients both diagnosed and self-realised predominantly ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, dyslexia and dyspraxia.

I work with clients with emotional, physical and chronic pain conditions, IBS, fibromyalgia, bereavement, arthritis and post-op pain.

I have worked in the fields of mental health and education for over 30 years.  I am currently studying for a Professional Doctorate in Psychotherapy Studies specialising in autism spectrum conditions.

Practice description

I offer Person-Centred, CBT and Integrative Therapy and Clinical Supervision.

Clients access therapy for a wide number of reasons.  They may feel anxious or overwhelmed and unable to cope with their lives, they may be struggling in their relationships, at work or with a particular issue or problem.

Therapy is a wonderful experience.  A chance to focus in on issues with a trained professional who is not a part of the clients world.  Someone who is non-judgemental and can offer compassion and empathy.  I can offer you a safe supportive space where you are free to explore your personal thoughts, feelings and challenging issues.

My role is to help you throughout the process without judgement.  To help you resolve issues, build a strong capacity for self-management and re-establish a sense of control and emotional resilience.

Together we can identify themes, work through obstacles or barriers and understand how wider influences or patterns of thoughts and behaviours may be maintaining your anxious or depressed feelings.

Therapy, whether short term or long term, is a process.  The process is a journey and it is as important as the outcome or outcomes.

I often see myself as part guide/part detective.  It is a privilege to be with clients who learn to trust and share.  They take me on their journeys, however dark or painful they may be, so that together we can unravel tightly bound knots and wounds and reveal clearer, straighter pathways.

My first session

Prospective clients are free to contact me if they have any questions or queries about the therapeutic process.

Clients may feel nervous about meeting a therapist for the first time.  For this reason, I ask clients to initially just book one session and see if afterwards they feel happy to continue with further sessions.

The first session is about me understanding why you are seeking therapy and finding out more about you.  If you are happy to do so at this point, we will complete a short assessment form.

I will talk about how I practice and together we will formulate a plan of what kind of therapy you would like and what may work best for you.  This can change during the course of the sessions.  For example - some clients have previously had CBT and require a more relational person-centred approach - some clients prefer a more solution-focused approach.

Clinical Supervision

I offer Clinical Supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors as well as healthcare and education professionals. I use Hawkins and Shohet’s relational and systemic Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision.

Supervision focuses on the relationships between the client, counsellor and supervisor and the connections and interplay between each relationship and their context within the wider system. I emphasise the importance of contemplation and reflection and cultivating and refining the skills and abilities to search for new choices and possibilities. I try to create a climate where the dynamics and creativity of the work can be fully explored generating more independent, inspired and resourceful Supervisees.

I supervise Counsellors and Psychotherapists working in private practice, for schools and colleges, organisations and charities, NHS and EAPs.
