About me and my therapy practice
Hello,
My counselling philosophy is built on the relationship between myself and you. I am aware of the subjective truth each of us holds, and the importance of how gently this is explored, examined, and protected. At the heart of this philosophy is a genuine, compassionate approach which will allow you, perhaps for the first time, to express and explore yourself without fear or shame. I am curious and genuinely interested to understand you.
For young people, my focus, as with adults, is that the therapeutic relationship is paramount to enable them to feel safe to explore their emotions and develop understanding. I am keen to empower young people to have a voice, and work through difficulties that may be causing them to become distressed.
My therapy practice supports your investment in yourself to enable understanding, harmony, healing and change. Through this work, you will recognise the unconscious dynamics that run your life and how to liberate yourself from them.
Practice description
Shame has been very much part of my life and of my work which led me to Compassionate Inquiry. I am deeply committed, on a micro level, to creating a more compassionate world. Compassionate Inquiry has helped me thrive and grow and inspires every moment of my life.
Compassionate Inquiry is a psychotherapeutic approach developed by Dr Gabor Maté that reveals what lies beneath the appearance we present to the world. My work now encompasses the body, enabling you to listen and care for it and understand its very subtle language to get to the core of your pain and challenges.
Self-compassion is at the heart of my work. Often our self-destructive behaviours are symptoms of what lies beneath the surface. The triggers and emotions are the cause of our difficulties, not the behaviour itself.
My first session
I offer a complimentary assessment which is a 30-minute session. This is an opportunity for you to get to know more about me and my approach to therapy before committing to work with me. I too find it helpful.
At this session I will establish your expectations of therapy as well as your presenting issue, history, and supportive relationships. I make it clear at this time that it is an opportunity for you to get a sense of how the therapy will proceed and how you will feel around me. I will explain how therapy works, if appropriate. I will be working to clear the space around you and helping you to consider things from a different perspective. I will be looking at your defences and as we develop trust and rapport, I will be building a detailed picture of you, working out with you what you need to help you live a more fulfilling life.
