About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Yvette, a qualified Psychotherapist who works 1 to 1, with adults. I offer an honest and respectful relationship, in which I hold no preconceptions or expectations of you. Through talking and exploring together, I can support you to find new ways of thinking, feeling, and understanding yourself, which will help you to manage the challenges in your life.
Before training to be a Psychotherapist, I worked as a Midwife for the NHS, and I raised my 3 sons. I have worked in various support roles including with victims of domestic abuse, vulnerable parents, autistic people, and parents of autistic children. This life and work experience has equipped me with the skills to build trusting and supportive relationships with clients, with the knowledge that everyone’s experience is unique and personal to them.
I have had experience and success working with people who are struggling because of their relationships, depression, anxiety (including health anxiety), anger, and other dominant emotions. I also have experience working with people who have been oppressed because of difference and diversity including people who recognise themselves as being autistic or having ADHD. Neurodiversity is an area in which I have personal and professional experience. I class myself as neurodivergent. My own experience prompted me to carry out post-graduate research on psychotherapy and autism, which has since been published.
Practice description
I am an integrative trained psychotherapist which means that I am able to draw on a number of therapeutic approaches depending on your needs. The therapeutic approach I use the most is gestalt, which considers your mind and body together, and how your past impacts your current experiences. I also draw on psychodynamic theory which involves exploring your childhood, and your patterns of relating to others. My psychotherapy qualifications include an MSc, and an Advanced Diploma. I am a registered member of the United Kingdon Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Being a registered member of these organisations is an assurance to you that my practice is safe, ethical and professional. I also have regular clinical supervision with a leading expert in my field.
I work with clients weekly, usually over a period of months or years. I work in-person from the Meridian Counselling Centre in Birmingham and I also work in-person from a therapy room in Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield. For people who prefer, I offer remote working via the zoom online-video platform. If you would like to explore having psychotherapy with me, please contact me by email: yvette.brook@btinternet.com and I will try to get back to you within 24 hours.
My first session
If you would like to explore the possibility of psychotherapy with me, please send an enquiry, or you can contact me directly by email. In the email please provide a brief summary of your reasons for seeking therapy, and the location, day and time which is convenient for you. We can then arrange an initial assessment session which will be carried out over the telephone or by video link.
In the assessment session I will ask you questions about your personal history, your current issues and expectations of therapy, and you will have chance to ask questions and gain an impression of me. We will then decide if we want to continue working together. The fee for the assessment session is £50 and payable by BACS in advance of the session.
