About me and my therapy practice
I work with adults, children, adolescents, and families and have ten years experience working with young people, specifically children and adolescents with a SEN diagnosis and the challenges this brings.
Sometimes in life we find ourselves in a stressful or particularly difficult time and need some support and a safe space to explore and reflect on our experiences and feelings. As your counsellor I can offer that support and space in a non-judgemental, confidential, empathic, therapeutic environment.
The journey of counselling will be carried in a person centred way of being, in which you will be at the centre of your therapy. I work in an integrative way, combining and drawing on other modalities, as different people need different approaches in therapy tailored to them in the most appropriate and beneficial way.
I will work with you to explore and reflect on your experiences, thoughts and feelings, helping you to understand where they may have come from and how they may be affecting your life and relationships in the here and now. Through this insight comes the opportunity for change and the chance to lead a healthier, happier life.
Practice description
The therapeutic relationship is key, I believe, for a successful therapeutic experience. Therefore, the first session is often based mainly on determining if we have a therapeutic rapport that you and I feel will be conducive to a beneficial therapy for you.
Counselling for children can be an especially scary and unknown place for them, I strive to make young people feel as comfortable as possible offering play therapy, art/creative therapy, sand tray work, Lego therapy, imaginative/exploratory play, communication play, role play and more. Alongside talking therapy, adults and adolescents also often like to draw on some of the above and in a person centred environment you can guarantee you will be the leader in what you feel is the best way for you to work, after-all you are your own best expert.
At times when you feel you need a little more direction; your own emotional resources will be listened to, including exploring any blocked emotions so that we can work together to find a way that is most suitable and beneficial for you, whilst I draw on my expertise to find the best therapeutic vehicle for us to use on your journey through therapy.
As a registered member of the BACP I work within their ethical framework ensuring my work always meets the highest of professional standards.

My first session
Finding a Counsellor can sometimes be a daunting experience and it is important that you find the right counsellor for you, so please contact me by email and I will then contact you to arrange an initial, free, no-obligation short consultation either by telephone or online to obtain a little insight into the needs of yourself or your child. If you would then like to move forward with therapy we can arrange an initial assessment to further discuss what you think you may want to gain from therapy and what brought you to it. It may be that you are not sure why, therefore, we can work on the present and find a way to explore your thoughts and feelings in a more organic way.
