About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m a psychotherapeutic counsellor, CBT Therapist and Clinical Supervisor. I offer an integrative approach using these two therapies together with the Internal Family System, trauma and somatic approaches to therapy. I offer warmth, empathy and respect where you can explore personal & emotional issues in a safe, quiet and relaxing environment.
I believe we all need to thrive, to be seen, heard and accepted without judgment. You may feel stuck or unhappy in some way and yet feel powerless to change. You feel it’s impossible to move forward, yet the idea of staying stuck is equally traumatic. My work is to journey with you while you explore habits, thoughts, thinking patterns and behaviours that have kept you trapped in negative patterns.
Counselling is confidential and non judgemental and is informed by the BACP Ethical Framework. I have experience working with a range of issues and I have a particular interest in complex bereavement and loss, severe anxieties and depression, panic attacks and chronic stress and domestice violence. I'm familiar working with trauma and how it impacts the body.
I understand that making the first appointment can be daunting. A free initial telephone conversation usually takes about 20 minutes where we can explore what you would like to achieve in therapy. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Once entering the counselling process, we will periodically review our ongoing work together. We'll meet at a mutually agreed time convenient to us both. While I’ll draw your attention to potential ways forward in our work together, the choice is always yours.
Practice description
You are very welcome to attend the Southport Counselling Service. The service is run from a counselling studio in an Alpine cabin. There is a sensory arched walkway to the cabin which provides a space between the outside world and the counselling studio which helps prepare your focus in both entering and leaving the session.
The cabin feels very warm, calm and natural providing a safe, confidential space. All the clients love coming into the cabin for an hour of personal self care, reflection and counselling. The kettle is put on, you make yourself comfortable and settle into your time and your space. I look forward to seeing and working with you :)
My first session
The first sesssion can be a daunting experience as it might the first time coming to counselling and the first time coming to the practice. Let me reassure you, it's very gentle, friendly and warm.
Initial paperwork for agreeing our working together is sorted first. This is where we both agree to how the counselling process will work between us: what you can expect from me and what I expect from you. You will be given a copy of the agreement for reference.
We will also do some initial assessments together to help me gain a 'snapshot' of what areas of your life are causing difficulty for you.
After this we move into the counselling session when we can begin to work therapeutically with each other.
The session will last for an hour. Ten minutes before the session I will bring to your attention that we have a short time left so that you can begin to prepare yourself for leaving. At the end of the session we will mutually agree to the next appointment day and time.
Payment can be made in cash at the time of the session or bank transfer.
