About me and my therapy practice
I offer one-to-one counselling and psychotherapy for adults in a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore moving towards change.
Working in a relational way means I attend to your story, history and therapeutic goals with care and compassion. It also means that I help you to create a shift in the relationship that you have within yourself.
My overall approach is guided by the Internal Family Systems model (IFS), which I blend with Brainspotting, a trauma processing approach, if appropriate. My underpinning core training is in Integrative therapy.
Sessions can help you to explore an understanding of your difficulties and uncover patterns in your history to enable you to connect current ways of being with past experience. By learning how these current ways of being came about, sessions can then move you toward change by working compassionately with these parts of yourself to attend to anxiety, loss, anger, depression or whatever it is that is causing you difficulty.
The direction of the therapy is client driven and can often explore deeper, longer term issues and relationships that you may have with others and with yourself.
Whether you are impacted by relationships within your life, a more personal or historical difficulty or the current global situation, my training and experience can allow a space for you to look at what may otherwise be difficult to explore on your own.
Practice description
I have worked alongside many individual adults, at their different life stages. My work has included a wide variety of difficulties within both short and longer term therapy in the voluntary sector, in the work place through employee assistance programs and in private practice.
I offer sessions in person in my private therapy room in the centre of Barnstaple and also remotely via Zoom and by phone. I hold a limited number of lower fee spaces available to low income groups. I welcome any initial enquiries via email, text or phone.
My training/qualifications include:
Brainspotting Phase 1 (Brainspotting UK)
IFS (Internal Family Systems) Level 1 training (IFS Institute)
CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling
CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (BACP accredited course)
CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills
Cruse Bereavement Care/Ascentis National Awarding Body: Awareness in Bereavement Care Foundation Course.
My first session
The initial assessment session is an opportunity for the therapist and client to get a sense of one another. For you, the client, to gain a sense of the safety and security of the sessions and for us to begin to explore what has brought you here and how we might agree to work together. There is space for your questions and concerns as I invite you to begin to share a sense of yourself, your life context and your history.
