About me and my therapy practice
Hello and a warm welcome to you. I'm Jane, a BACP accredited experienced counsellor, EMDR therapist, and clinical supervisor. I offer compassionate growth-focussed counselling in person and online to any area in the UK as well as EMDR sessions to alleviate distressing symptoms of PTSD, depression and anxiety.
I embody an accepting, non-judgemental and individualised approach combining varied modalities to offer expert counselling to adults aged 18+ as I truly and passionately believe painful childhood or adult experiences can be healed with professional and benevolent support. Therapy is short to long term, depending on your individual requirements.
May I commend you on taking the first step in reaching out, as for many of us the thought of engaging in therapy to address the difficulties we are facing can seem frightening and out of our comfort zone.
How can counselling help?
There are many reasons for seeking therapy and as an experienced and trauma informed counsellor, I have found that these reasons are often incredibly painful. Perhaps you are holding onto distress from a difficult childhood, grieving the loss of a meaningful relationship, or wondering what your purpose is. You may have been hiding your pain for a while and managing daily life well but inside, feel exhausted and alone from putting on a mask. As your therapist, I can help you to make sense of the feelings experienced and enable you to see difficulties in a more manageable way.
My approach
I take an integrative approach to counselling, blending psychodynamic, humanistic, and cognitive behavioural therapies and incorporating trauma informed theory and EMDR to support clients who have lived through distressing experiences. I will witness, validate and empathise with your unique lived experience and support you with the daily challenges of being an imperfect human. Progress is the goal, not perfection.
Practice description
Experience/Specialism
My varied and extensive counselling experience includes working within several not-for-profit agencies supporting a variety of people with mild to severe mental health challenges and women-specific charities throughout Surrey and London, as well as in private practice. I previously supported NHS key workers throughout and after the pandemic as a Counselling Service Lead which has given me intensive experience of working with depression, anxiety, burnout, anger difficulties, compassion fatigue, chronic stress, trauma and complex trauma, PTSD and bereavement.
I have supported many men and women with a vast array of challenges; from survivors of sexual assault to bereavement of a loved one and redundancy. I specialise in childhood emotional, verbal, narcissistic or sexual abuse, child/adult trauma and the impact this has on the present day. Often resulting in loneliness, depression, anxiety, co-dependent behaviours, low self-esteem and confidence, parenting struggles, and difficulties with intimate relationships.
Trauma informed
Trauma takes many forms. You may have experienced a break up that was traumatic, loss of a loved one, been in an accident or experienced childhood abuse. In response, our nervous systems can become hyperalert to danger or shutdown which, over time leads to life feeling overwhelming and exhausting Trauma can also cause us to develop protective parts which may lead to internal conflict, for example: one part may be staying busy all the time while another part would like to rest. I work with you to resolve inner struggles and move to a more peaceful way of being.
EMDR
I offer EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing), a highly specialised treatment specifically designed to release trauma stored in the body and process PTSD symptoms and distressing experiences. EMDR sessions can be more frequent than weekly counselling to target memories and negative beliefs that are having an detrimental impact on the present day.

About me and my therapy practice
Why choose me?
As a BACP accredited integrative and relational individual therapist, my supervisory approach is to have an individualised, considered and above all, caring response to my supervisees’ work and their practice. I begin every supervision session with a mental wellbeing check in. I believe you as a counsellor, need not only a reflective space, but an emotionally safe space also and a chance to talk about you. Please tell me how you are! Due to my current role working as Counselling Service Lead for NHS frontline workers, I have extensive experience of working with depression, anxiety, childhood/adult abuse and have specialist training in trauma and PTSD and have supervised counsellor groups, individual therapists, healthcare clinicians and managers.
I also work as a group supervisor for a charity that offers low cost therapy to women in the local area. I support trainee therapists to provide ethical and effective counselling to women struggling with trauma, menopause, health conditions, relationship difficulties, fertility related issues, pregnancy challenges, abuse, depression, anxiety and stress.
Safety
You may be working independently in private practice or for an organisation, either way, it's important that you don't feel isolated so my aim is to be as encouraging and supportive as I can be. I work to the BACP's ethical framework and while you bear the primary responsibility of your client work, I will ensure your practice adheres to a recognised, safe and ethical standard and at times, adopting a more directive approach when required.

Practice description
How I work
I work purposefully and empathically with you to build a trusting relationship that challenges, nurtures and supports, alongside developing your confidence, knowledge and abilities in providing effective and ethical counselling to clients. I respect your training, level of experience and in-depth knowledge of your own clients and offer you time to reflect on what is happening in the therapeutic space. We will explore together any issues that you may wish to bring, be that around client work, personal development or work-related issues. For qualified therapists, I can also support you with the BACP accreditation process.
Style
Supervision is integrative, combining person-centred, psychodynamic and gestalt theories as well as cognitive behavioural techniques but as Carl Jung says, “Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch a human soul be just another human soul.” and I concur. The relationship between supervisor and supervisee is incredibly important and building that relationship is essential for me to deliver successful and effective supervision. I believe and have been told, I'm very easy to talk to and supervision sessions can be fun and light when needed! Connection is key.
Trauma trained
To support your work with clients who have experienced trauma, supervision can focus on specific interventions such as the internal family systems approach and regulating the nervous system with polyvagal theory. This flexible and relational style allows me to be adaptable and work with a variety of modalities and counselling practitioner styles.
Supervision model
There are a variety of models of supervision in use today. One of the most common is Hawkins and Shohet’s Seven-Eyed Model, and this is the core model I adopt. However, I offer flexibility and creativity in the approach used, adapting it to meet the need and preferences of each supervisee.
