About me and my therapy practice
I believe the therapeutic relationship itself is a powerful agent of change, and that belief is central to how I work. In my practice I offer a supportive, confidential, collaborative and non-judgemental space in which you can take a pause to reflect and think things over, feel supported to explore your concerns or connect with difficult emotions, and feel empowered to take steps that will over time enhance the quality of your life.
Practice description
There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to therapy. As an integrative practitioner trained across a range of therapeutic modalities (Psychodynamic, Existential, Humanistic, CBT) my approach is driven primarily by individual client’s needs and presenting issues, offering more supportive, exploratory or practical approaches as required.
When commencing work together, some of the questions I often encourage clients to consider are:
- whether they would like the work to be focused more on challenges they may be experiencing in the present day, or further back in their life;
- whether they would like to set goals to work toward, or have a more open-ended, exploratory approach;
- whether they would like to experience more support or challenge/confrontation from the therapeutic relationship;
- whether the tendency is to focus more on thoughts, or feelings.
Alongside my therapeutic work I have also worked as an Organisational Psychologist and coach in the corporate sector for over 20 years and continue to work in that capacity. I may draw upon that experience and insight in my therapeutic approach, particularly when working with matters of workplace stress, career transitions or redundancy, and explorations of self-identity related to work.
I work with adult individuals of all ages on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period.
My first session
Before we begin therapy, I offer a free, no-obligation telephone consultation (15 minutes) for us to establish how or if we want to begin the process.
Our first session and all subsequent sessions will be 50 minutes duration and at the same time weekly. During this first session we can establish mutual expectations, any goals or preferences for our work together and familiarise ourselves with how the process will work. If we decide to work on an open-ended basis, we will agree periodic review points to ensure your therapy remains on track and continues to meet your needs and support progress toward your desired aim.
