About me and my therapy practice

Are you feeling overwhelmed or stuck and don't understand what is going on for you? Are you suffering from anxiety, depression or have a sense that things just aren't right, but you don't know why? Are you unsure about how to move forwards in a more meaningful way? Do you want to make sense of life's challenges?

Have you had enough of putting on a brave face, or wearing the mask which hides what is really going on inside you? If you have answered yes to all the above, let’s explore together how we can make sense of it all for you. We will work at your own pace exploring your feelings and emotions, which supports growth and change. You will set any goals you may want to help create the life you want.

I have witnessed growth and change during the therapeutic process, enabling individuals to feel empowered and able to live a more meaningful life. I offer compassion, empathy, openness, understanding and authenticity in a calming and peaceful environment.

I build deep therapeutic relationships with all clients, creating a trusted space for clients to speak their truth.

I successfully work with trauma, specifically childhood trauma which can be deep rooted and have the perception of being in danger.  This perception can trigger the fight, flight, freeze reaction.  Our nervous system can work in overdrive by perceiving that we are in danger, creating anxiety or panic attacks when really inconvenient.  For some, reactions and behaviours might be viewed as extreme given the situation.  Together we can work towards taking back control, building tools and strategies for you to use in moments of overwhelm or panic.

Counselling can be positively impactful and empowering, creating a sense of understanding of who we are.  Self-acceptance is the ability to accept both your strengths and any areas deemed as personal faults, without judgement.  By changing the narrative and offering ourselves kind words, we will often feel more comfortable with who we truly are.

Practice description

I work as a qualified MBACP person centred counsellor. I am 2 years post qualification with more than 1,500 client hours of delivered therapy.

Since qualifying I have completed a trauma course in addition to many hours of CPD, to ensure I am up to date on the latest research of the mental health sector.

I work successfully with clients who have experienced trauma, specifically childhood trauma. I also work with clients who have diagnosed PTSD. I also work with grief, loss and bereavement, which can be affect clients who haven’t been able to process the impact of life changing events.

I apply the main person centred principles into my therapeutic approach offering authenticity, empathy and compassion. By creating an environment which is calm, peaceful and held, clients can explore what has led them to therapy.

Through gentle inquiry and curiosity, we can explore your thoughts and feelings, enabling you to cope with the effects of your traumatic experiences, without re-traumatising you, but by finding ways for you to heal.

Unresolved trauma can take on many forms resulting in some individuals struggling with their jobs, relationships and mental health issues. Counselling can help identify triggers, decrease the symptoms and develop coping strategies, all in a safe and supportive environment.

I offer face-to-face sessions only, from my own purpose-built therapy room, in a village between Truro and Falmouth. The room is quiet and private, with plenty of off street parking available.

I encourage anyone who wants to explore starting therapy to ask as many questions as needed to ensure I am the right counsellor for you.  Using my offer of a free 15 minute consultation aids the process of checking if we are a good match to enter into a therapeutic relationship.

My first session

The first session is a ‘getting to know you’ introduction type session. It is very relaxed, and undisturbed, creating an environment for you to share as much, or as little, as you want.

At the beginning of the session, I will take basic details which include your address and contact details etc. I also take notes within the first session which helps me to fully understand the ‘work’ you are bringing to therapy.

There are no expectations for you to prepare for the first session. However, if you wish to write notes to bring with you, please feel free to do so.

The largest amount of time during the first session will be used for you to describe what is going on for you and to set any goals you wish to work on. You can ask as many questions as needed for you to be comfortable to start your therapy journey.  You can also ask about my experience and how I can help you.

At the end of the first session, we will discuss whether you want to book another session, there is no obligation to do so.  If I am not the therapist for you, that's ok.  It's really important that you find the right therapist for you. Someone you feel comfortable with.

If you feel we can work together, we will discuss a plan of how we move forwards, which will include the frequency of sessions, days and timings.
