About me and my therapy practice

JUST BETWEEN US

Hi I'm Jo, I have worked in educational settings for 15 years before I went on to further myself into counselling. Currently I support 3 schools (primary/secondary) along with my private practice, which is run from my office within my garden, enabling me to have a flexible approach to facilitate face to face or online, with a diverse set of clients. I have gained lots of experience dealing with self- harm, friendship/family dynamics, couple relationships, stress, anxiety, self-esteem, confidence and depression, to name a few.

I did my counselling placement at MIND where most of my clients were, elders, adults and teens with varied issues, I attended many courses to compliment my client issues.

I am fully insured, have a DBS (needed for work with children) and am a BACP registered counsellor, with my course accredited by the BACP. I offer an integrative, humanistic person-centred approach, whist incorporating mindfulness and coaching strategies to get the most from our sessions. The sessions are tailored specifically to your needs as everyone is individual, what works for one client might not work for another.

I reflect on my practice by thinking "what would I want from therapy" with this in mind I provide a safe inviting space that's heated, accessible parking where I come out to meet you at every session, and a mix of remote/ face to face counselling if need be. There is also great transport links which are 5 min away.

I find that I am a natural empathic person who can easily put myself in another s frame of reference, with a non- judgemental outlook on our time spent together. My aim is to explore your presenting issue whilst applying theory and working together to establish the best way forward to enable you to manage your issue independently in the future.

I have been lucky in life to be able to facilitate others in many walks of life by using my counselling knowledge and hope to do the same with you at "Just Between Us".

Practice description

Taking that first step to therapy takes courage, and one I'm sure you will try to talk your way out of but isn't it best to try than to not have tried at all. It's your counselling session and you have the ownership on how you want it to turn out.

I can provide a safe confidential place for you to express your needs without interrupting your flow and talking about myself, which I know can happen lots in life when discussing our worries with others.

I aim to help you become clearer about your problems through exploration while finding solutions to help you grow and manage them more effectively, incorporating the therapeutic core conditions of counselling - unconditional positive regard, empathy and congruence all to be delivered by the therapist but also received by the client for it to be effective and for change to take place.

I offer a free 15/30 min telephone consultation for us to engage and see if we can work together, giving you chance to ask any questions regarding the sessions.

I believe that counselling should be accessible to all so therefore offer a reduced rate to Students and Senior citizens.

My first session

Our first session will comprise of building the foundations of the relationship, agreement of a contract about how we will work together and what can be expected from both parties. Establishing what you require from the sessions, your goals and telling your story in a safe place.

The sessions usually last 50 min and are on a weekly basis, this is also flexible. I can provide face to face counselling, telephone or online.

You will lead the sessions and can bring whatever you wish to, I won't pressure you to explore or reflect on something you don't want to. I believe that you are the answer to your issues, and I will help provide the tools needed for you to flourish in life.
