About me and my therapy practice
I’m trained in a Person-Centred way specialising in children and young people as well as adults. I will not advise you or tell you what to do however I will help you explore the areas in your life which you choose to bring to counselling. I will support you in making your own decisions and help you gain a better understanding of yourself and your situation. I offer a non-judgemental safe space for you to explore your issues in your own time and at your own pace. I am also trained in Creative Therapy, Play Therapy, Gestalt, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
I have a master’s degree in counselling children and young people.
I offer Counselling for children and young people (4 – 24 years old) and adults. This includes:
• 1:1 face to face counselling
• Zoom
I adhere to the Ethical Framework for Good Practice provided by BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) of which I am a Registered Member.
I have insurance for personal liability and professional indemnity which covers me to work anywhere in the world, however Canada and the USA have different legislation regarding online counselling therefore I am not covered to offer online counselling in these countries.
Practice description
My private practice is situated from home in a quiet village at the foothills of the Malvern hills. I have a fully self contained counselling suite with parking and toilet facilities. With over 19 years experience as a therapist, and 6 years as a Year Leader in a large secondary school, I offer a safe space for not only children and young people but also adults.
Our sessions will remain confidential and no content shall be used for any other purpose. The only time confidentiality does not apply is if I am concerned about your own or someone else’s safety, or if you express intent to break the law in which case I may need to pass some information on to relevant parties only. I would however where possible discuss this with you first.
I may discuss aspects of our work with my supervisor to assist our work together and develop my practice but your identity shall remain anonymous.
Records of our work will be kept no longer than 7 years after counselling has ceased.
When over zoom I recommend you use a private and quiet space in which to carry out your online counselling which will feel safer for you to explore any difficult issues.
1:1 Face to Face sessions and Zoom sessions
We agree on a set day and time to ‘meet’ in person for 1:1 sessions or on-line using Zoom. Zoom is a secure platform which provides a high level of end-to-end encryption.
Zoom sessions may be carried out with our cameras turned off if required (Audio only).
1:1 Face to face sessions and Online counselling sessions will last for up to 50 minutes – they may be weekly or further apart depending on your requirements.
During our work together we may regularly evaluate how the counselling is going and if it is the most suitable form of support for you at this time.
My first session
Before your initial session where possible I will ask you to fill out an assessment form which will support your therapy. This is particularly helpful when working with young people as they may have outside agencies involved or receiving interventions via their school.
For adults it can also be helpful to have an understanding of any other previous therapeutic interventions undertaken or valuable information that allows a smoother transition. It is also a good tool to assess how therapy has or has not made a significant difference.
