About me and my therapy practice
I am a highly qualified counsellor, with over twenty five years of experience supporting and counselling individuals, couples and families, in both the NHS and the private sector. I have worked as a counsellor, in a GP Practice, as a Staff Counsellor within a large London NHS Trust, and for 11 years ran the Oncology Counselling Service at the London Clinic Cancer Centre. I also offer Organisational Supervision and Reflective Practice to staff working in the Oncology Setting.
I gained specialist experience in Cancer Counselling in the United States, where I worked at one of the leading US organizations providing support to those affected by cancer.
This area of work has continued to be at the heart of what I do.
A diagnosis of cancer can bring a huge amount of change and disruption into the life of the individual and their family. It is my aim, to help equip each individual I meet, whether patient or family member, to cope more effectively with the challenges they face in their diagnosis, during their treatment, and beyond.
I offer you you a safe space, without judgment, to help you explore your thoughts and feelings. As an integrative counsellor, I carefully tailor the counselling sessions to each individual. My experience tells me that there isn’t one therapeutic approach that can help a client in all situations.
Practice description
I draw upon a range of therapeutic techniques which focus on Strengths rather than problems, including Compassion Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness based approaches, with the aim of promoting self-understanding, insight, resilience and positive coping.
Above all I value the relationship between client and counsellor; and as research has shown, the single most powerful factor in effective counselling is the strength of the relationship between client and counsellor, regardless of approach.
My first session
Our first session is more like a consultation, and gives you the chance to talk about your concerns and gain an idea of how we will work together. By the end of the session, we will check that my approach feels comfortable for you, and if you agree to continue, we will arrange times for future sessions. What I can help with
