About me and my therapy practice
Hello and a warm welcome to my profile, my name is Beth and I set up Yellow Brick Road Counselling to help children and young people who are struggling with their mental health.
When I'm not seeing private clients I work as a school therapist in the Leeds area. I work in both primary and secondary schools, offering children a safe space to explore whatever issues they may be facing. I help children and young people to be themselves again. A lot of the young people I work with are dealing with depression (low mood), anxiety, self harm, suicide ideation, OCD, intrusive thoughts, anger and an inability to self regulate their emotions.
I work with many neuro diverse young people and show a keen interest in getting to really know their world and how it is for them. I have undergone training in ADHD and Autism meaning I can offer an empathetic space for young people to be themselves.
Teenagers in particular go through a lot: school workload, physical changes, the increasing pressure to be socially acceptable. All these can, on occasions, be quite overwhelming for a growing mind and body. They have questions and opinions. They want to say the big things and the little things. They need ears that listen to what matters to them. If it matters to them, it matters to me.
I also work in a private capacity for schools across the Leeds area. If you are a teacher or senior leader within a school environment that would be interested in me embedding a mental health support service within your school, please do get in touch to discuss the services I can offer.
Trauma - I can offer specialised sessions for young people who have experienced trauma or adverse childhood experiences (ACE's).
Practice description
Like adults, children and young people can find expressing their feelings tough. Counselling can help a child or young person to realise that when we talk about our feelings, our fears, our worries and our frustrations they become less overwhelming, less scary and less upsetting.
Self-confidence and self-esteem can begin to grow once a child or young person is able to ‘let go’ of what has been bothering them.
I help children and young people to become themselves again by looking at strategies to help combat the problems they have been facing.
I am a fully qualified children and young person's counsellor who you can trust with your child. I understand how tough asking for help for your child is, I will be able to explain the whole process so you feel less anxious and more informed about the counselling process and how it helps.
I am a registered member (MBACP) of the BACP.
I am a member of the BACP Children, Young People and Families (CYPF) division.
I am fully insured and am also registered with the ICO in regards to data protection.
I am fully DBS checked and have completed up to date safeguarding training.
I’m also a dog loving Mum to 2 children who loves travelling and walking. My favourite days are out walking with my family (including my dog Rusty).
My first session
The first session is an assessment session and will include some information and forms, including the contract and GDPR policy. This is to make sure you are fully aware of how the counselling process works and gives us time to discuss the working contract. The first session is also a time for you to ask any questions you may have.
The first session for a child or young person will include the parent, as it is very important that both parties are on board and are fully aware of how the counselling process works, particularly regarding confidentiality.
I would recommend at least 8 sessions of counselling; this gives time for the therapeutic relationship to develop.

About me and my therapy practice
Hello and a warm welcome to my profile. I'm Beth and I run YBR Counselling. YBR stands for Yellow Brick Road and at the heart of what I do, is you and your journey. I believe that everyone has the strength within them to be happy, we just sometimes need a little help along the way.
Dorothy after her journey down the Yellow Brick Road returned home a changed person. I'd love to guide you down your very own Yellow Brick Road.
As your counsellor I promise to offer you;
Acceptance
Respect
Dignity
Understanding
Confidentiality
While giving you Responsibility.
I am a fully qualified and registered person centred counsellor. I work with the BACP ethical framework at the forefront of my mind, meaning you are in safe hands.
I have helped people with a range of issues including; anxiety, low mood, depression, loss, low confidence, domestic and sexual abuse, trauma and OCD including intrusive thoughts.
A real passion of mine is helping parents who are having a difficult time. As a fully qualified children and young person's counsellor I work a lot with parents who struggle to maintain a positive relationship with their children, due to their own childhood. We look at genrational trauma cycles and how these can be broken.
Please don't suffer in silence, in the words of Chauncey Depew;
'The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.'
Practice description
Being able to communicate what’s on your mind with your loved ones is the first step to looking after your mental health. But sometimes talking about your feelings and needs can feel difficult. That’s when counselling can help. Talking in confidence to someone who is completely impartial, who’s not going to judge can help you see things a lot clearer.
Counselling can be a daunting process for anyone. Being warm, respectful and friendly are at the heart of YBR Counselling and what I do, offering these core conditions in all sessions allows you to feel that your voice is being heard and that you are no longer alone.
From the outset I want you to know that I'm there for you whatever you bring to the session.
