About me and my therapy practice
As a highly qualified and experienced therapist, I can support you with a number of worries and events that may be past or present in your life, maybe you have concerns about what will happen in the future?
I use a variety of different techniques to support you and am able to adapt my approach to suit your needs.
I am able to support adults and children with many issues and offer counselling and psychological support for things such as trauma, relationship problems, chronic pain, low mood, self esteem, depression, bereavement, phobia, stress, intrusive thoughts, managing emotions, ocd, anger, addiction and anxiety.
I have specialisms in intergenerational trauma (childhood and relationships) and OCD/anxiety. I am completing my professional doctorate where the topic of my research is the both of the above.
Therapy can offer many coping skills and psychological strategies to overcome these and other feelings. In addition to counselling and psychological interventions I am also able to offer CBT, which is a very short term, goal focussed way to overcome difficulties. I have many years experience both with the nhs and also in more recent years, privately.
A consultation with me is free and can last around 20 minutes, online or telephone only. Not everyone goes for this option and some prefer to have therapy right away but I always suggest it as some people like to know who they are going to meet and then make a decision if and how they would like to proceed. Eg face to face, the ways in which I could help. There is no right or wrong. It would be your choice to have a free consultation or not.
Practice description
Why therapy?
Therapy is used to treat emotional problems and mental health conditions, it involves talking to a trained therapist either 1-1 or in a group, it involves looking deeper into your problems and worries and allows you time, confidential space and guidance to work out ways to solve your worries or issues. Therapy can also help you to deal with troublesome habits either cognitive (thoughts) or behavioural (actions). (CBT*)
Therapy is often to referred to as a listening or talking therapy, this is the case for many types of therapist although, therapists are trained to help you to solve your problems so they may suggest a strategy to help solve your problem or even ways to overcome these difficult emotions and support you to change your attitudes and behaviours.
Often coping strategies are needed to help you calm the overwhelming feelings and emotions and your therapist will be trained to help you find ways to cope with these.
Some therapists use art, music, mindfulness and creativity/play, this is often useful for clients who initially feel unable to express their needs through talking
