About me and my therapy practice

“You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending” C S Lewis..

I absolutely understand how uncomfortable it feels to have to look outside your usual circle of support for answers. Therapy is a different kind of help and a relationship unlike any other. Finding the right therapist is key, and ensuring it feels 'right' is, I believe, fundamental to the healing process.  Only you can decide this for you, and it is unique to every one of us.

Sometimes we  can't quite work out what is 'wrong', we just don't feel ok, or sometimes we are aware that certain events or relationships have had an impact on us, but can't see how to move beyond this without a trusted, non-judgemental and compassionate other to work through it collaboratively. This is where therapy differs from our other relationships, and why it can be so effective in helping us to make sense of 'stuff'.

I work relationally and creatively with my clients; drawing on my training, experience, and self, to ensure that I meet each client individually and in a way that feels right for them.

I may not have been through exactly the same experience as you have, but I will try very hard to understand how it must feel for you to have done so, without judgement, and with honesty and curiosity.

I believe that we all hold the key to our own recovery, but sometimes require a compassionate observer to work alongside us, building self-awareness and understanding as to where the roots of these problems may stem from.  This is often deep-rooted unhelpful thought patterns, feelings, and behaviours, which can be worked on.

To help you in this process of finding the right person for you, I offer a free 30 minute initial conversation to give you the chance to see how it might feel to come to therapy with me, and whether we think we are a good fit for each other.

Why not contact me and start your process today.

Practice description

I offer a space, within which we can explore what is going on for you, how the past may be impacting your present, being curious about possible deep-rooted beliefs that may be getting in your way, and look at ways to go about working through some of this to clear a way forward.  If, once, we have had our initial conversation, you feel you would like to work with me, then we can set up a regular weekly, or fortnightly time to meet around your availability and requirements to start our process.

My first session

At the first session, I will tell you more about how I work, what to expect from the process, find out more about what it is that you are finding difficult and what you are hoping to get from our sessions together. To help with figuring out what it is that you want, I will often ask what you might like to be changed by our work, and how you'd like to feel/be different by the end. It is a chance for you to start to tell your story and for us to become curious about how this might have impacted your current feelings and behaviours, giving us a place to start from.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an accredited BACP Psychotherapist with 5 years experience.  I qualified from the University of Leeds in my 50s, having  worked in a variety or roles and industries, and also raised a family.  I work in a relational way and each client is unique, as is the relationship between us.  My area of focus is early life attachments and how this has impacted us relationally into adulthood in both friendships, work, and romantic connections.  I work with the individual and whatever they might bring (whether known or unknown).  I find that what a client may initially come to me with is often the surface presentation of a deeper wound/core belief, and that working with this can have quite transformational impacts for them.

Practice description

I work relationally and individually with each client.  I am an integrative therapist and work uniquely with what comes into the room, drawing on my experience, my training, my personal felt sense, and the clients needs.  I offer a compassionate observation to each client, being sensitive and attuned to both what is said and also what might be unsaid.  I will be gently curious and encourage and sometimes challenge you to explore your inner world.

My first session

In a first session, we will have met or talked and decided we would like to try to work together as it feels like a good fit.  I will explain how I work and what to expect, I will explain my working terms and conditions and ask you to sign a contract to agree to this.  We will begin an intial assessment, where I will gather knowledge and information about you to help me gain an understanding of you and your life.  From this point we will decide how to move forward and what areas you are particularly keen to address and understand better.  The sessions will be driven by you and what has come up for you and I will follow and be curious and observe and gently challenge or encourage further exploration.
