About me and my therapy practice
Are you struggling, feeling stuck or overwhelmed, wanting to make a change and wondering where to start? Whatever you’re going through, know that you’re not alone.
I'm a qualified and experienced counsellor and I offer a peaceful and non-judgemental space where I'll help you explore and make sense of the thoughts and emotions you're experiencing. I'll support you as we carefully and gently explore how it feels to be in your shoes, helping you find the relief and sense of connection that can be gained from sharing your story with someone else.
I use a variety of counselling approaches so I can provide you with the support that is right for you, whatever you’re going through. Whether you require short-term support to address specific concerns or you're seeking longer-term therapy to delve deeper into underlying issues, we’ll find an approach that suits you as an individual and meets your unique needs.
Amongst the approaches I use is Transactional Analysis - a type of therapy which helps you understand yourself and other people better, whilst also providing practical tools to help you live a more fulfilling, enjoyable and happier life. It can help you understand how your past experiences may be impacting your present-day life so that you can develop practical coping strategies and begin to move forward. I also draw upon other counselling techniques such as mindfulness and cognitive behavioural therapy, which can help you cope when you feel stressed, anxious or depressed.
Above all, I’ll support you in developing your own solutions to your difficulties and help you get a better understanding of who you are and how you would like to live your life.
Taking the decision to have counselling can be one of the most helpful steps we ever take in our life. It's important that you find the right counsellor and so I offer a free 30 minute introductory session - either in person, online or by phone.
Practice description
My counselling studio is a 15-minute walk from the centre of Winchester and has views overlooking the South Downs - it is easily accessible by local bus and there is plenty of nearby parking available. I also offer online sessions.
Clients come to me for many reasons including anxiety, depression, feelings of low self-esteem, bereavement, loss, trauma, sexual abuse, rape and assault, self harm, relationship difficulties and work-related issues.
Alongside my private practice, I work for a specialist counselling support service for people who have experienced sexual abuse or assault, resulting in trauma.
As a registered member of the BACP, I am bound by and adhere to its Ethical Framework for Good Practice.
My qualifications
FdA in Humanistic Counselling with Transactional Analysis (BACP accredited)
Certified Grief Professional - Evergreen Certificates
Training in trauma following sexual abuse or assault (Carolyn Spring - 5 modules).
Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills
Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Studies
Transactional Analysis 101
My first session
Your initial session gives you the opportunity to explain what brings you to counselling and what you're hoping to get from our sessions together. This might be your first experience of speaking to someone about your challenges and I want you to be able to feel comfortable and understand fully how counselling can help you.
In our first session we will cover:
• What’s brought you to counselling
• Your background
• Your hopes for attending counselling
• Our working agreement
This is the perfect time to see if we are a good fit for one another. There is no pressure to begin regular counselling after this session. If either of us feels we are not the right fit for any reason, I will do my best to support you to find another counsellor.
The initial session is charged at the full rate of £50 and is 50 minutes long.
