About me and my therapy practice
I am an accredited member of the BACP.
As an integrative therapist, I explore your thoughts, feelings, emotions and bodily experiences. This holistic approach enables us to gain a rounded view of what might be going on for you. My work is client led, meaning that I work with whatever you choose to bring up. My focus in the initial stages is to build our therapeutic alliance to make you feel comfortable and secure.
I work in Spondon, with the A52, A50 and M1 close by. My practise is on bus routes between Derby & Nottingham and there is free off road parking.
I offer weekly sessions which are 60 minutes long - the fee is £55. Initial assessments are also charged at £55.
I have worked with several Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) providers, offering brief counselling to employees who need support with personal and/or work related issues. This work was conducted in person, online and by telephone.
Testimonials:
"I felt comfortable as soon as Jo opened the door and I saw her smile. I only wanted a limited number of sessions and knew what I wanted to work on. Jo was able to do this and brought new insight into how my childhood impacted how I feel as an adult". Testimonial by M.B
"Jo made me feel at ease and I quickly felt able to share my anxieties, personal and work related stress with her. With her support I've been able to work through some complex issues and start to build a new life. I feel optimistic about the future now and have learned strategies to support myself when challenges arise. I cannot recommend Jo highly enough, she helped me find myself again and although I hope to not need her again, I will miss talking with her very much. Thank you! Testimonial by L.S.

Practice description
I have been practising since 2015, and set up my private practise in 2017.
My pronouns are she/her.
Accessibility
My therapy room is on the first floor, accessible by stairs only. However, online therapy may be a suitable alternative.
I can provide all paperwork (contracts, GDPR statements etc) in large print, on coloured paper, or electronically upon request.
I offer a neuro-affirmative way of working; please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
How I work
As I work in an integrative way, this allows me to tailor the therapy to suit each person that I work with. I take into account different learning styles, and different approaches to ensure that you get the best experience you can out of your therapy. I use different theories depending on what you might need.
I focus on all aspects of a person - thoughts, emotions, physical symptoms, memories, behaviours, dreams and fantasies to name a few. This gives a holistic view of the person rather than focusing on just one aspect.
I find metaphors and images a powerful way to access thoughts, emotions and memories, which build the foundations for being able to attribute language to our experiences. We may also use resources such as stones, pens/paints and paper to visualise different aspects of you.
My first session
When you initially make an enquiry, I will send you a brief form to complete via email to indicate what it is you are looking for from therapy.
Before our first session, we will then have had a short introductory phone call to discuss any questions you may have about therapy. We will then arrange our initial assessment session, usually within the next week or two.
In the assessment, I will ask you about how you are feeling and what you are experiencing in your current life. We will then discuss relevant events in your history, which can sometimes give an indication of why you may be feeling the way you do in the present. Your wellbeing and support network will also be explored, as well as what you need from therapy. We will then discuss the practicalities such as our mutual availability, and fees. At the end of this assessment, I will invite you to make a further appointment if you feel comfortable, or will allow you to go away to think about it and then let me know.
At our first therapy session, we will need to complete some paperwork before we begin. There will be a contract, providing the framework for our work together; as well as a GDPR statement. We will then begin the work, building our relationship as we go along.
The therapy will be reviewed at regular intervals to ensure you are getting what you need, and to address any challenges that may have arisen in the work.
The end of therapy can be just as important as the therapy itself, so we will make sure that as we approach the end of our time together that it is handled sensitively. We will allow as much time as you need to process the ending and to prepare for life after therapy.

About me and my therapy practice
I work from a relational, integrative modality. My experience is working with individuals over 18. I hold a BSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy from SPTI (2017) and gained my BACP accreditation in 2019.
I work with a varied case load of clients, but hold a specialised interest in working with people with chronic illnesses. My experience is based on working with clients aged 18+ only.
The theories that I integrate are psychodynamic, person-centred, Gestalt, object relations, neuroscience, TA, grief, and trauma work.
I offer a neuro-affirmative way of working.
Practice description
I work with qualified therapists and am able to support those who may be going through the accreditation process with BACP.
If you are a student therapist looking for a supervisor, please check with your training provider that I would be approved to work with you.
I am approved to work with SPTI students who are on the BSc degree.
For group supervision, I can accommodate groups of up to 3 people (in person or online).
My first session
After the initial contact, we would arrange a 1 hour assessment session (1 hour per individual for groups). Here, we would discuss what you are looking for in supervision, as well as your clinical experience. We will explore your modality, areas of therapeutic interest and disinterest and decide whether this aligns with what I can offer.
I may also ask you to bring a vignette of your client work so we can get a sense of how we may work together.
